I doubt Val Kilmer can fit inside a cockpit of an F-14 now

What's next...

Day's of Thunder 2?
I'm only kidding but if Top Gun 2 works they could use the same script, scratch plane of it and change it for car, they did it once.

Camp Cruise might be getting desperate with his last few movies not doing $o well in the Ca$h dept. MI4, now a possible TOP GUN 2. At least the MI movies are/were already in place for a series of them, but it could come across as Ca$h Grab$ to show he might still be "viable" in the marketplace.

Well with Knight and Day underperforming at the box office it's no surprise to me that dipping back to the well may be on the horizon for Cruise. Even uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer has had an off summer. Prince of Persia was a domestic box office dud and with The Scorceror's Apprentice coming up that one will hit or miss. Bruckheimer is also trying to get Beverly Hills Cop IV off the ground but that is still in development hell. Sure Cruise has M:I-4 on deck, but who knows if Paramount will still backrole that film based off the Knight and Day performance. Top Gun 2 has been rumored for years, but also at that time Cruise said he would never make sequels. It's obvious that he would be the teacher at the Top Gun school, but a hot shot female is pretty ****in' thin. The protagonist should be Goose's son, who blames Mav for his father's death. Ofcourse that's sound thin too. No wait how about Mav vs Doug Masters from Iron Eagle. Plus you can get Lou Gossitt, Jr back as Chappy Sinclair. This way you got a crossover story of Top Gun and it's bastard child Iron Eagle. Or they can always adapt the Atari game sequel
Top Gun II: Afterburner.

I haven't enjoyed a Tom Cruise movie since he became a Scientologist and learned to read. All of his movies in the 80's made for a very solid career of quality work. Everything since '94 induces my vomit reflexes. Unlearn to read damn it!!! If he wants to make useless sequels than how about Losin' It 2: It's Already Lost

Paramount Tying to Kickstart Top Gun 2; Tom Cruise to Have a Small Role

Tony Scott has a mile-high stack of projects on his plate and seems about as interested in talking Top Gun as Fred Phelps is in reasonable discourse, but that might not stop Paramount from trying to light a fire under him to make Top Gun 2. Word now is that, after years of rumors that would (hopefully) put Tom Cruise back in the cockpit, Paramount is pitching Jerry Bruckheimer, Tony Scott and Tom Cruise on the sequel. Quick, before the ’80s nostalgia wave becomes a ’90s nostalgia wave! Otherwise they’ll have to sequelize Days of Thunder instead.

Vulture says that the studio hasn’t just talked to Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer, but that it wants Christopher McQuarrie to draft a script.

Here’s the important bit: Tom Cruise is reportedly good with that hire (the two have a past together with Valkyrie) and has agreed to take a small part in the film, “provided it’s not too ‘obvious’ a part.” Which means, basically, that we won’t see Maverick training new pilots. Hooray for that, at the very least.

Vulture recaps comments made earlier this year by Jerry Bruckheimer, who said that the role played by military pilots is quite different now than it was twenty-five years ago. That is, there’s a lot less potential for dogfighting (not so many Russian MiGs to fight of late) and a lot more bomb-dropping. That means a rather different Top Gun program, and a general scenario in which the gung-ho cold war politics of the first movie aren’t quite at home.

Vulture mentions two other reasons this might go forward. One is the light tarnish on Jerry Bruckheimer’s star. He’s had a string of duds (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, G-Force, Prince of Persia) and might be lured back to Paramount after a long run at Disney. And the other is David Ellison, the 27-year old wunderkind financier who is paying for a big chunk of Tom Cruise and Paramount’s new Mission: Impossible movie. He’s a flying film fan, having produced and starred in Flyboys (2006). He recently tried to get Northern Lights made with Taylor Lautner, and is said to be a huge Top Gun fan. Since he’s paying for a chunk of Paramount’s upcoming slate, if he wants a Top Gun sequel, we may just see one. Or ignore one, whichever you prefer.

So very true. But I like Tom Cruise so I'd be very excited to see him in the second
