Always can’t understand why people have to talk about those that want to buy what they want when they want to. If someone wants to why does it bother you? I am one that does upgrade all the time yes I got upgrade fever all the time. I just don’t get the problem that someone spends the money they want to there way as long as they can afford it there should be no issue. I think its great that people do if it makes them happy it’s what matters.

+1. I know 2 members in AVForums who have tried almost all the high end TVs. One person exchanged about 18 TVs to get a panel with perfect uniformity. They have the disposable income, time, its their money, and we don't have to curse or mock them. In fact, we can always get some decent feedback from fussy owners.

I will attack them if they're doing it to that degree, because it's purely wasteful and that type of consumerism is having an a negative impact the environment.

That's a narrow minded view, you don't live in a world alone, your actions affects others. The uncontrollable, unchecked consumerism (upgraditis) is having an adverse effect of the environment.

"As a tech-hungry nation flush with cash gets ready to upgrade to the next generation of lightning-fast 5G devices, there is a surprising environmental cost to be reckoned with: a fresh mountain of obsolete gadgets. About 6 million lb. of discarded electronics are already processed monthly at recycling giant ERI’s Fresno plant. Pallets of once beloved but now outdated devices, like smartphones with only an 8-megapixel camera or tablets with a mere 12 GB of storage, arrive here daily. Workers with hammers hack at the bulkiest devices, while others remove dangerous components like lithium-ion batteries. The scene is like a twisted Pixar movie, with doomed gadgets riding an unrelenting conveyor belt into a machine that shreds them into piles of copper, aluminum and steel."

Unfortunately, this way seems to have hit the TV world.

Well, this is why we need more access to electronic recycling centers so we don't harm the environment. Most people don't know where to take their old electronics so they throw them away. Places like Best Buy should advertise that they recycle electronics. And there should be direct information to electronic recycling centers instead of going through 5,000 sites find the place.

They dont destroy those OLED tvs after return. So they are not wasted. They are resold as open box, so people who cant afford the original price, buy them at a lower price. The stuff you return to Amazon, never goes back to Amazon. It goes to a 3rd party wholesaler, who buys the returns for a fraction of the cost, and then resells it to dollar stores, etc, or in the case of electronics, to buyers who then resell on ebay, etc. You can get a good deal, but be aware it likely is a return because the person didnt like the banding, or there may be a few dead pixels, etc.

In my city we have an electronic recycling facility. Unfortunately, those old electronics are sold to companies that ship them back to 3rd world countries, where cheap labor is used to strip the valuable metals inside, and then the rest is just dumped into a big landfill. BB does the same thing. So in reality, only a very small percentage of the tv is recycled. The rest is just polluting 3rd world countries. It was like that in China until a few years ago where they banned it. Now the world dumps their old electronics elsewhere, in poor countries. So unfortunately, recycling is a joke when it comes to electronics.

Canada is dumping their garbage in big containers to the Philippines...by boats.
I don't know where they dump their old TV sets.

Old OLED TVs should be dumped into the homes of poor Blu-ray forum members.

But the irony is that one of those fellas on AVF is never happy. He buys TV after TV, usually going through half a dozen returns of each one before starting the cycle anew, and all I learned is what a colossal fusspot he is rather than being enlightened by his mastery of all things TV.

As someone who sold TVs for a long time, customers like these were the bane of my existence which is why I've got no such admiration for them. Not that we should just blindly accept something that's sub standard, but there are actual faults and then there's fussy fookers with a serious case of FOMO.

I hear you on that. I like tech and like having the best that I can afford yes some people go over board but that goes for everything in life. I still think if that floats there boat it’s not my place to tell them. It’s not coming out of my pocket and it does help people keep employment also.

Vincent gets test samples from retail sponsors. They get returned afterwards.

He did buy a Vizio from the USA and had it shipped, as it’s not sold in GB.

Yes, Vincent is a professional video reviewer/calibrator; he gets the TVs (test samples) delivered to him. He doesn't buy all those TVs or he would be broke by now.
It's a tough job; you need to be truly passionate.

* That was a way of saying; he doesn't get TVs that have been returned due to faulty panels, or burn-in or banding or ...

Stay safe, double mask.

I can only attack them on keyboard warrior capacity lol but even that will get be banned from the forum.

You do realise they are are not taking their brand new TV to their nearby waste collection and are simply returning it back to the dealer for another one.

Personally I don't have the time, money and mood to take this route but I had to do it once to get my LG C8 exchanged due to severe vertical banding.

Yeah, do get your point. Serial returners can be a big problem to retailers.

I did question him once but didn't want to sound too intrusive but at least he did give some decent feedback after owning various TVs.

Stop capping for Vincent, he's also a YouTuber Influencer. He's there to help manufacturers make money. He's not a Joe Kane, D-Nice, or a Dr. Raymond Soneira, totally independent without an agenda.

Recycling centers are being overwhelmed. People don't understand that because we're in an era of insatiable consumption. Consumer Electronics manufacturers and their marketing departments are behind this.
