Is it just me, or does the colors of the video look a little wonky today? I'm watching it on my LG C9's YouTube app and it seems the overall colors, especially skin tones, are pretty warm. It's like Vincent got a sunburn or something.

He says the G1 is just back to C8/C9 in terms of nits and brightness. Can handle specular highlights a touch better then previous LGs.

Takes a shot at D-Nice.

Also answers user comments in regards to Sonys A90J that likely due to Brexit and other factors no review in the immediate future for that TV.

Don't think this test is comparable to a TV in a blacked out room. But the bing comedy factor is outstanding.

High brightness TVs are just nowhere near real life. On a sunny day you will end up squinting. Can’t say I have ever had to do that with a TV, even in a darkened room. Those commenters are just looking for something to dismiss.

I guess they aren't as experienced as Vincent with sticking a tool in a bush.

He's just trying to put things into perspective (again) for the people who keep trotting out arguments AGAINST TV's having higher peak brightness for HDR content. I can understand arguing the merits of particular HDR gradings on content, but not arguing that TVs shouldn't have higher peak brightness.

Well generally it's better to have an excess in performance. But doesn't a display suffer in processing content with lower peak brightness? E.g Goodfellas.

Depends on how the display tone maps. If it tone maps based on the max mastering display luminance, like the older LG models do, and the content is mastered on a 4000 nit display but only has a MaxCLL of 200 nits, then the TV will depress the entire 4000 nit range into the peak brightness of the TV (600 nits in the case of the aforementioned models.) That 200 nit MaxCLL would end up being considerably depressed, too, as a result, making for a very dark image.

I wonder how far back that went? My 2017 LG OLED mapped that disc just fine. And was no darker then the blu-ray remastered disc.

I posted impressions over in the A90J thread. It's definitely an upgrade over my LG B7 in the HDR 10 department.
