He says the G1 is just back to C8/C9 in terms of nits and brightness. Can handle specular highlights a touch better then previous LGs.
Takes a shot at D-Nice. Also answers user comments in regards to Sonys A90J that likely due to Brexit and other factors no review in the immediate future for that TV. |

High brightness TVs are just nowhere near real life. On a sunny day you will end up squinting. Can’t say I have ever had to do that with a TV, even in a darkened room. Those commenters are just looking for something to dismiss. |

I guess they aren't as experienced as Vincent with sticking a tool in a bush.

He's just trying to put things into perspective (again) for the people who keep trotting out arguments AGAINST TV's having higher peak brightness for HDR content. I can understand arguing the merits of particular HDR gradings on content, but not arguing that TVs shouldn't have higher peak brightness.

Depends on how the display tone maps. If it tone maps based on the max mastering display luminance, like the older LG models do, and the content is mastered on a 4000 nit display but only has a MaxCLL of 200 nits, then the TV will depress the entire 4000 nit range into the peak brightness of the TV (600 nits in the case of the aforementioned models.) That 200 nit MaxCLL would end up being considerably depressed, too, as a result, making for a very dark image.
