Default Onkyo TX-RZ50 HDMI 2.1 Receiver

Thought some of you might find this interesting. I've been following the AV receiver scene since last year and am eagerly anticipating their arrival.

I have this model pre-bought with Gibby's in Canada and this video just popped up today confirming the Onkyo TX-RZ50 will pass HDMI 2.1 correctly.

Integra, Pioneer and Yamaha also have new receivers coming that claim to have fixed last years HDMI bug, but they aren't out in the wild yet for testing as far as I know.

Just watched that video myself earlier today.

Yeah none of them have been officially released yet. But it is indeed a welcome sight, and it is nice to see one in action. Hopefully Denon will get the new chipsets soon and higher end receivers as well.

Yes, at least we're trending in the right direction.

Yamaha was looking like they might have a bit of a monopoly on working 2.1 this year if the VOXX deal didn't go through and their line is overpriced imo. Competition is a good thing.

Hopefully not. I agree you can get better than Yamaha for the same price. I used to have one, switched to Denon, and have not regretted it one bit. Room correction is better, and it is more intuitive and more robust in its operating system than Yamaha. My very first home theater system used an Onkyo. I liked it but they seemed to have fallen a bit behind a few years later when I was trying to upgrade to 3D audio. Seems they’re trying to catch-up now. Hopefully they will.

Denon makes some excellent products and i've never had a bad experience.

It's anecdotal and surely isolated, but my last two Yamaha receivers both had issues, so I'm ready to check out another brand, hence the Onkyo.

The Pioneer and Integra lines seem to be on the right track as well, should Pioneer finalize their deal later this month.

Always loved Onkyo, but me last 2 receivers were Denon. Looks like I’m going back to Onkyo with the RZ-50. Working multiple 2.1 inputs and Dirac? Hell yeah.

Has it been confirmed this Onkyo will have Dirac? I have heard pretty good things about Dirac.

What are you replacing your Epson with? I used to have a 5030.

Yep
This isn't the first time Dirac has been linked to one or the other brand, which left some wondering if Onkyo's announcement was destined to crash. But, we're here to attest: it's real. As of now, we can only confirm the inclusion of Dirac Live on the majority of Onkyo, Elite, and Integra 2021 models; however, Dirac's Bass Control module might be part of the deal. That's a wait-and-see detail. More on that, soon.

I expect most of the HDMI 2.1 issues to be sorted from 2022. They released it too early and got burned.

Hallelujah! Here's the 1st HDMI 2.1 AV Receiver that Does 4K 120Hz with PS5 & Xbox Series X Bug-Free - YouTube

I'm also looking for a new receiver and would like to get a ClassD one (hence Pioneer or Onkyo), so this has me optimistic as well. This one won't be for me yet, but here's hoping for new ClassD models later. Not dead yet.

What other benefit is a receiver with HDMI 2.1 for if not gaming, since 8K really isn't a thing?

I'd like to see Trinnov in Denon/Marantz pre-pros and receivers next year...2022.
Dirac with Onkyo/Integra and Pioneer/Elite THX is good...June 2021.

If you don't have a PS5 keep your current receiver.
