I have almost pulled the trigger on an NX5 a few times now, but I think at this point I'll see what the rest of this year might bring for new announcements. I got the new TV in November, now the receiver, then I'll move on the getting serious on the projector.

It is at least a step in the right direction, last year was a mess for hdmi 2.1.

Its a fair point. Game consoles or PC is the only reason you'd need it.

My current receiver is pretty old, so it doesn't even have Dolby Atmos which is a selling point for my situation. That and the rear channels don't work anymore.

Don't want to make this an Onkyo thread, but a Canadian pre-order with specs has been posted in a German forum yesterday (?) as well: https://www.2001audiovideo.com/en/pr...-onkyo-tx-rz50

And I got some shit for pointing out that Dirac is a dealbreaker for me, when I realized that Dirac requires an internet connection (for licensing purposes). Mind you that I really wanted to get a Class D Onkyo or Pioneer receiver, but DRM can kiss my ass (especially with a crucial receiver feature). I'll be looking elsewhere and will be fine without Dirac.

Yes, that was the first link I saw posted. There's now at least 3 canadian authorized retailers offering pre-orders with one of them coming in $200 less than the other 2 via instant rebate.

I hear you on DRM. It appears to just be inherent to Dirac, so if you want it, it comes with the territory.

I'm a lot more concerned with finally having Dolby Atmos for a 7.2.4 setup and not having to manually swap cables as I've had to for a while now.

Umm, no, thanks. And (opposed to the new Onkyo/Pioneers) doesn't even have 40 Gbit HDMI (but only 18Gbps), which is a dealbreaker as well. (and ridiculous considering the price point IMHO)

I like the idea of a pre-amp, but those setups are simply way overpriced, so integrated suits me just fine. I also never liked the introduction of analogue connections with such setups - that's like one step back again in my book.

It's all ok; Denon, Marantz make good receivers for $500. Plug your 4K OLED TV (Sony or LG or Panasonic) to one of their HDMI outputs and enjoy Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Stream 4K HDR from Netflix or watch ... say T E N Ǝ ꓕ 4K Blu-ray with the subtitles on, or Godzilla vs Kong 4K Blu.

Overpriced to the millennial gaming demographic, not overpriced to the baby boomer audiophile demographic.

I am still buying a tad more expensive, because I just like having a solid metal front for example, but there are reasonable limits.

Yes, the voodoo is still strong with audio. I think that's because with audio you cannot show the bullshit as clearly as you can with video nowadays - it will still always sound miles better. I've had a hard enough time with clear objective digital facts with some people, arguing about what they are hearing is completely pointless.

A rare breed here in North America, but not in the UK and other parts of Europe ...
