As per my LG C1, TPC On definitely dims down the content. I’ve done multiple tests to see what, where, why, & how ASBL is effecting the Panel while watching every single type of screen format.

The biggest offender is Dolby Vision. The only time Dolby Vision isn’t effected by TPC is when it is in “Game” mode.

HDR10 & SDR content never dims on my LG C1. Doesn’t matter what APL is displayed with “moving content”

GSR however does dim the screen when I play games. Has 0 effect on film. This is a must feature for OLED. So I wouldn’t turn that off ever or you definitely would risk IR or Fixed Pixels. LG has 3 user options. Off, Low & high or 0%, 15%, & 30% Auto-Dim.

Sony is actually more aggressive with their GSR implementation. They give users 0 options & when it is triggered, the screen will dim 50%. How this is handled on the A95K, no reviewer has chimed in yet. But the A90J, A80J will dim 50% while playing games with static HUDs.
Thankfully I am not a gamer.

That dark cellar scene in Evil Dead dimming further on my ex-LG C8 was doing my head.

My TVs are mainly for movie watching and YouTube only. I don't care if it dims on YT as it is for casual viewing only. With movies I have a 0 tolerance policy.

You then shouldn’t have to worry about ASBL. Maybe on the odd chance you watch YouTube in HDR. If not, then you are good to go. YouTube doesn’t dim in SDR.

Sony isn’t exempt from ASBL. If I had one, the first test I would run is Disney +.
Hawkeye Episode 5 “Ronin” in Dolby Vision.

There is a 7 minute scene with only 2 camera cuts.

My LG will dim the crap outta that scene if I have TPC On.

I'd still choose my LG C9 in a heart beat! This is the best TV I have ever had!

Although the ASBL/ TPC issues are with my C9, everything else about the TV is awesome. Sure LG has made some improvements on the TVs in the last few years since the C9, but the C9 still holds up.

If LG would own up to this and try fixing the issues, then I would be good to go! Not sure if it will happen, but now that a major person in the TV world has made a video on it, it's possible they may look into it.

Unfortunately for me I like to watch what I want to watch without dimming.

A few examples,

Stranger Things (Netflix)
The Witcher (Netflix)
Ozark (Netflix)
Anything from Disney + that has anything in Dolby Vision.

I keep hearing that Panasonic are less aggressive with their ABL. I often experience it on my LG B6 and I hear newer OLEDs are much better than my TV.

Even though this is a tech flaw, I would not give up that OLED contrast!

I wouldn’t if you don’t notice any dimming.

Especially since it can be turned off.

Ukraine HDTV 4K HDR calibration

It's not all black & white. Just buy the TV for your personal family use.
Is your family a gamer family? Are you into best value (LG is also in that race)?
Is your family a Dolby Vision fanatic addict family? Do you have enough money after you fill up your car's gas tank? Do you prefer traveling and making sacrifices @ the international and local airports? Do you have enough money left over after grocery shopping?
How much is your mortgage, your rent, your utilities, your mindset?

Are you a Sony man, a Samsung man, a LG man, a Panasonic man, your wife have enough money to buy shoes and cosmetics?

See, buying an HDTV today is not as easy as it appears to be.
It all depends, of who's buying and with which money...yours, or the bank (loan credit).

Vincent knows best. He'll calibrate your TV for you, no sweat.

If you have Apple+, the one which annoys me is See. Some episodes get so dark, you literally can't see "See"... no pun intended.

I do but am not subbed to Apple’s TV Service. Main use cases are Netflix, Disney, Prime.

No issue with Prime cuz they don’t do Dolby Vision.

It’s ridiculously easy to turn off TPC. I leave GSR on.

So 0 Auto dimming thanks to the Service Remote. It’s nice to finally get clarification thanks to Vince that GSR is ASBL.. Not TPC.
