You don't really need the remote, you can change the settings with your TV's browser. But the remote is probably easier!

Trust me, they will. I talked to an LG tech when I tried (and failed) to get a panel replacement, and he said that they'll just replace a panel in an LCD without question, but any OLED repair has to be individually approved by someone at LG and they will go out of there way to avoid doing anything.
Makes me consider going with another brand whenever I decide to get a new TV.

I'd recommend it if you're careful not to leave anything static on the screen for too long as LG voids your warranty if they find you turned off ABSL in your TV's service log...but they'd have to be hellbent on finding a reason to not provide a repair/replacement under your warranty at that point.
Awesome, thanks so much for the feedback, folks!

Yeah, I'm super careful with that set...it's not my daily watcher, so I only watch about 1-2 movies on it a week and have the timer engaged as well. I'll be extra careful next NFL football season though as it tends to stay on from 11AM - 11PM on Sundays.

Quick question or two...by doing this (A) am I causing long term damage to the TV and potentially shortening it's life and (B) would it affect any of the service menu picture settings that my calibrator made?

A) Yeah you'd be shortening it's overall life, but not drastically. It's up to you weather you'd prefer an overall better experience or an extra month or two of service.

B) What service menu settings did they change? I calibrate LGs and I've never had to touch the service menu.

Haha right on, the better overall experience is what I'm after.

On the Excel spreadsheet he provided me once the calibration was complete, he states, "fine tune and white balance were done in the service menu."

I've seen some folks mess with the white balance to adjust the color temperature across the different picture modes, but I don't think it's necessary to do much in the service menu for a decent calibration.

Something you should know is the settings you had selected for logo dimming and pixel shifting are still in effect if you disable ABSL, so if you're worried about any logos burning in (which is unlikely, especially with networks that constantly switch between commercials and programming), I suggest you have those on for good measure (since you can access those in your basic vanilla TV menu).

Thanks for the heads up...yeah, I'm aware that I'm running a higher risk once I turn it off so I'll probably not run that TV during the fb season if I'm not in the room flipping around to various games.

The answer isn't as simple as throwing out a number and guaranteeing your TV will self destruct once that time has passed (trust me, many TV brands would try that if they could). It's also about how you define an OLED 'dying'. Some people give up once they see a burnt in image, others define it as the thing literally won't turn on. If you treat the oled right and we're talking about a newer one here (because of different panels and burn-in prevention implementations), I'd say a decade isn't out of the question, maybe even two, and that's if we're talking about dying via burn in. Now if you're going to have the same static image on the screen with brightness capped out at it's max, then you'd be lucky to have it not show any signs of wear after a year. That's why OLEDs aren't exactly the best products to get a discounted display model of, without testing of course.

The Panel is rated for 30,000 hours. Electronics could fail before that time is passed. There isn’t a rated Panel hour for WBE ones yet. Since they use deuterium which lasts longer by a factor of 5, (Heavy R&D researchers went in depth in 2014) it’s possible the WBE Panel’s could exceed 30K or even 60K hours used.

So I agree you can’t throw a number at it & call it a day. All OLEDs decompose even if never used.

Don't know man. We got a bunch of folks who spend £1000s every year on phones but won't spend £1000 on a good TV but complain they are expensive lol.

The last phone or mobile device I spent money on was back in 2014.
They all still work fine.

Not sure what your point is other than there are a lot of people who buy new phones instead of new TVs.

Calm down Sir. It was aimed at those who do change phones every year but not invest in a good TV. You advise them to spend £1000-£1500 on a good TV but it too expensive for them. Significant chunk of Gen 'Z' are glued to small mobile phone screens or gaming consoles.

Of course, to each their own and priorities are different.

I’ll try not to raise my internet voice next time.
I was perfectly calm.

I agree the mobile market is absurd. I’d rather have 2 new TVs per year.

It makes sense when you realize they spend much more time watching the little screen. Like you said, different priorities. Mobility/convenience outweighs PQ for them.

Also factor in that phones are much better status symbols, since they're seen by so many more people.

Why would anybody need to talk for 6-8 hours a day on their “phone” is a bit crazy. Unless they are not using their phone as an actual phone & just starring into the text abyss. If that’s the case, they need to stop calling these devices “Phones”

Believe it or not, folks use these devices to watch TV shows and movies. They stream services such as Tik Tok for comic relief. They use them for all kinds of social media. They take pictures (these days something didn't actually happen unless you post a picture of it on social media) and they shoot video (there are some movies released that were completely shot on an iPhone!). These AREN'T really phones anymore; they are small mobile computers that are used for most everything.

Ironically, making phone calls is one of the things it's used for least. Most younger folks only text; phone calls are "so last-century."

There should be something somebody can think of to make a catchy phrase to name these devices. Phones as you put it is so last-century.

Dana Carvey has a joke reference calling them “Pocket Computers”
I’m sure someday someone will figure out what to call them.

In the meantime I’ll sit back, relax & watch whatever in Native 4K on a 65” OLED. Which Segways me back on topic.. as nice as OLEDs are, I’m anxiously awaiting MicroLED to become mainstream so Vince at HDTV Test can stop praising OLED as the be all end all Display tech & actually take interest in better TV technologies.
