It's Michael Findlay's Super Touch 3-D, the same system used to film Dynasty and Revenge of the Shogun Women.

We have a dynamite short documentary covering Super Touch 3-D/Optimax III on our upcoming Dynasty Blu-ray. I did the research/script/narration, Bob and Greg furnished many wonderful graphics, and our colleague Joey Tiberio did all the animation, editing, and music, then put the whole thing together in a very informative and entertaining package. I realize I may be considered biased, but it really is one of the best VAM items I personally have seen on a 3-D Blu-ray release. The 3-D Film Archive really cares about these movies, and it shows down to every detail, including the VAM Bob and the team put together.

I could not be more excited about seeing Dynasty and Revenge of the Shogun Women again, those are my 3D Holy Grail. Together with the mystery title from VS, that's a very nice helping of silver age 3D coming our way. If only we could still get more of the remaining silver age titles released...

I checked my email:

"We don’t sadly."

Maybe it was the Star Wars thing.

Well, it was worth a shot. They'd been announcing more and more Jackie Chan titles, and I just didn't want to wake up one day and find out Magnificent Bodyguards was getting a 2d release. At this stage in the game, I feel like we need to reach out more so these labels will at least know we still exist. That way when 2d releases happen, I won't feel like I did nothing.

When Dynasty's kickstarter reached its goal in under 2 days, I really felt like anything's possible and there's no good reason for these films not to be restored.

I think Bodyguards had a fairly recent release blu-ray 2D. It was included as part of a Jackie Chan collection I got not long ago, IIRC.

LOL ... I last watched it about a year ago, so don't trust my memory, but AFAIK the Star Wars music is not in the film, only that promo-trailer thing they cooked up for the new HD release.

That's a budget, bare-bones multi-film collection for the Danish market. A bit of a shame that that happens, but it doesn't necessarily preclude a more fully-featured release for the US, UK or Asian market. I'd be more concerned if a collector-tailored release omitted 3-D. In fact 4 of the films on that collection are getting stand alone releases by 88 Films. Two of which were announced just last week.

Good to know of its existence though. As a last resort, perhaps an unauthorised 3-D version could be cobbled together from that release and the previous sd release you mentioned taken from the opposite eye view. Although we can't talk of such things...

According to the wikipedia entry, the Star Wars music has been edited out of dvd releases. I don't know the source on whether it was actually there to begin with. Presumably if it was, there may be some contemporary account.

There is always hope, though for the Asian market they did get their own stand alone somewhat recent 2D blu-ray release as well, including english audio.

I don't have that one, but would bet it's the same image transfer as the Region 2 box set release. A trailer is included in that release, it seems.

Given VS's latest email refers to their Black Friday releases (one of which is the 3D disc) as a "duo of slasher secret titles" I'm back to thinking it has to be Silent Madness. I've never seen Tales of the Third Dimension but from what I know of it I don't think it could be considered a slasher film, even by Vinegar Syndrome's somewhat loose definition of the genre. I guess we'll know in two weeks.

I think it's all but guaranteed to be Silent Madness. The inclusion of an anaglyph version would also point to involvement from the 3-DFA though naturally there will be no comment on that until the time is up!

I hope so.

I'm a bit surprised there isn't more buzz about the release in this forum. I wonder if VS's surprise strategy is working against them in this case? It will surely sell well regardless, but still, we're just a couple weeks from a new Silver Age title going up for sale. This is big!

There’s only a certain amount of enthusiasm that an unknown, unannounced title can generate. Once the actual title leaks or gets announced this place will light up.

Seeing as how everything they release sells out, I'm sure they'll do just fine

The reason there's no buzz is nobody visits this forum outside of maybe 10-20 people. 3D is dead. I mean, when was the last time someone talked about Wings of the Hawk? It's currently ranked 75th in Westerns on Amazon and it's been promoted and on Amazon for a few weeks now. Taza was ranked in the top 5 the entire time and it still didn't sell great according to Kino, it seems like Wings of the Hawk is flopping hard so far. Hopefully that changes, but it's just a new reality, most people have moved on from 3D. I love 3D like the rest of you guys, but the fact is it's over outside of niche releases, which is what the VS is. It will sell to people who don't even own 3D tv's. I actually bet more people who don't watch 3D will buy this than who do. VS can peddle anything horror related and this movie has never had an official flat release either. If this wasn't a horror movie I'd be a bit more worried about sales

Amazon aren't allowing international customers to pre-order Wings of The Hawk yet, once they lift that stupid restriction it will start to sell better. I haven't got my order in yet for that very reason. The Vinegar Syndrome title has the dual advantages of being a horror film and being region free. Not to mention that it will be orderable direct from VS wherever you live, whereas Kino have no interest in dealing with international customers.

They’ve blocked Canadians as well, you can’t buy it from Amazon.com and it’s not on Amazon Canada so I have to wait. I’m not very excited about buying another Western but I’ll take what I can get in the spirit of enjoying 3D as long as I can

Fully agreed here that pre-sales should pick up for Wings -- but also that horror (and sci-fi) genre titles far outsell westerns on 3D.

Where I disagree is on Kino and overseas markets. Without commenting on whether or not Kino shows efforts to serve other regions, the reality -- as noted repeatedly here by Bob Furmanek and others -- is that Kino (and other distributors) are bound by the region restrictions imposed by the rights-holders and their lawyers.

Universal did not grant global rights to Kino; had they done so, I'm sure Kino would have made Wings a region-free disc.

By contrast, the rights-holder to Silent Madness -- assuming that is indeed the forthcoming VS title -- apparently imposed no such restriction.

Anyway, I'm eager for more Golden- and Silver-Age 3D titles -- hopefully genres and titles that will show some prospects for sales.
