![]() This is the Thread where I ask about TOF4C: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1616&page=2254 Here is the thread where Kino Lorber Insider says "We did not acquire any 3-D titles this time around (From MGM), we may pickup a few later. The sales for many of them have been disappointing." https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1616&page=2256 |

If they passed on it, than maybe the studio is willing to make a deal with someone else for this title.
Do you think this would be an ideal title for one of your kickstarter campaigns? Also, would kino ask for your input when choosing a title or are you just brought up for the restoration? The trailer for this looks amazing. We need this in 3D. Specially after a bs year. |

I think Treasure of the 4 Crowns would be a good fit for Vinegar Syndrome, but if it's a package deal, I'd rather see Kino get it, since they'd be more likely to do titles like Diamond Wizard and Bwana Devil. I'd like to see Bwana Devil make it in time for the 70th anniversary. |

I'd like to see Vinegar Syndrome go after the Earl Owensby catalog, especially the horror ones, and release The Starlets + whatever other softcore the 3DFA can license cheaply. Emmanuelle IV would be a great pick for them if they can license MGM titles (although Kino has 1-3). Otherwise, I think Kino is our go to for MGM licensing, and it sounds like they will be restoring more in the future. I assume we will get Hannah Lee and Domo Arigato from them as well when the time comes.

And let's not forget the 3D in Venus (1984) was good, with a couple of very effective pop outs! It already got a 3D release in VHD back in then. Prison Girls (1972) and Love in 3-D (1973) also got video releases and even 3D transfers at some point in the past, with the 3D in the second one being much better than the first. Prison Girls is even showing streamed in Amazon in some parts of the world (in 2D, of course).
Too bad both Domo Arigato (1972) and Hannah Lee (1953) are among the most dull and unimpressive titles out there, but not much more that can be had. I would probably prefer a restoration of Bwana Devil (1952), given how most all the few "A" (or at least B+) titles still w/o a proper release are held by studios or worse. Even Starchaser (1985) was getting a proper 3D release since around 2015 and it doesn't seem to be happening, so still the VHD home release from the 90's in the only one officially available in 3D. Interview on Starchaser Jul 2015 The Earl Owensby catalog would be about the most refreshing 3D additions, no doubt, even if I'm not a fan myself of Rottweiler (1983), but at least it has a few effective pop-outs. But the rest I would be very excited about getting a proper 3D release! Hit the Road Running (1983) Hot Heir (1984) Tales of the Third Dimension (1984) Chain Gang (1984) Hyperspace (1984) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by the13thman; 01-08-2021 at 07:45 AM. Bringing any vintage and neglected film back to life is quite a challenge. DYNASTY was no exception and the poor condition of the 35mm materials presented a quadruple threat to the restoration team. They include;
1. Intermittent (and at times severe) vertical scratches on six of the ten reels. 2. Baked-in stereoscopic anomalies from the Super-Touch 3D lens attachment. They include specs of dirt internally on one of the two prisms; occasional variable shading at the top and bottom of each eye as a result of loose optics in the lens; sporadic soft focus and vertical mis-alignment. The latter has been entirely corrected but the other problems are simply not fixable. You'll learn more about the pros and cons of this inexpensive lens system in Mike Ballew's superb 10 minute featurette on the disc. 3. Vinegar syndrome deterioration at various stages on the ten reels of magnetic Quadrophonic sound. 4. Severe color fading from the 35mm Eastman color elements. This image has some before/after examples. ![]() Keep in mind, when restoring a 3-D film, you have to do every scene twice for the left and right sides. That said, everybody worked overtime to get this one finished and the entire 3DFA restoration team is very proud of the end result. Please join us on Saturday February 6 at 4 pm EST for our live chat to learn more about the challenges of 3-D restoration. We look forward to hearing from you! https://www.facebook.com/events/745653799410681 |

The Facebook chat is archived on the Archive's page.Lots of good questions. I was sad to learn that the 3D version of Hyperspace (Gremloids) is lost, especially since it had the best name recognition factor of Earl Owensby's titles(Chris Elliott, Paula Poundstone). I guess even Owensby doesn't have a copy...

I think it would be a relatively commercial title if they could locate some 35mm elements to work from. |

Here's a weird question that I doubt anyone can answer ... but let's hope!
In the early 80's when 3D came back briefly to theaters, I made it a point to see everything I could. Then-current releases like Jaws 3D, Parasite, Metalstorm, and older titles that got re-released like Creature From The Black Lagoon and House Of Wax. One I saw was a 3D slasher, I think it was set at a girl's college or sorority house. I don't know the title, but it could be Silent Madness. However, what I remember most about that long ago screening was that the movie began with a police investigation of a murder. It seems like it might have been at a circus. After a bit, the film switched over to the girl's and the slasher story. After the movie ended, my buddy and I were talking when one of us said, "Hey, what about that murder at the beginning?" None of the characters in that opening were in the rest of the film, and the incidents from that brief scene were never mentioned again. My thought at the time was perhaps they needed to pad out the running time of this slasher film, so they added footage from some incomplete 3D movie onto the opening. I have no idea if that's true, but it did seem like it was from a completely different movie. Any idea? Does anyone else who was going to the movies in the early 80's remember that? I've laughed about it over the years, but forgot long ago what the movie was called. Last edited by the13thman; 03-02-2021 at 08:01 PM. Reason: moved from Silent Madness thread |

No, not in the UK - sunny Southern California. This would have been '83 or '84 when 3D films were in theaters again. But I've always wondered about those opening few minutes! ![]() |

In the Vinegar Syndrome thread someone was speaking about MGM licenses for VS and one that came up was a 3D movie from 1993 called HAUNTED. Frankly I never heard of it, went looking for it on the 3DFA site and could't find any info on it (I might have missed something), but I managed to find it on IMDB when I typed the title and the year;
Haunted was the 3rd theatrical film lensed with additional newly developed 3-D camera technology. The camera system used 3 cameras, weighed over 8 pounds and required hours of addition lighting and setup time per scene shot. Has anyone seen this before? It doesn't even have a score or review on IMDB. It had a budget of 2.7m. What were the first two films shot with these cameras!?; https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1844676/?ref_=fn_al_tt_6 |
