Thx for the reply!

A shame the 1000 won't be true 10-bit.
8 bit plus dithering is what the HDR lite panel owners are struggling with currently.

By way of the relatively unreported at the time (2015), except for Blu-ray.com -

concept of OOTF. In a nutshell, despite ITU trying hard to achieve a single HDR solution, after 4 years of discussions it became evident that the only way to break the impasse was for the ITU to standardize both PQ and HLG with the concept of OOTF introduced in both systems as common ground.

Some see HDR10+ as less optimal a dynamic solution as compared to Dolby Vision, whereas others view it as a benefit. For the record, last I heard, Spears favors Dolby Vision.

Looks like I'll be getting a new format to test out tomorrow:

Quote:
Under the agreement, users of Samsung's high-end QLED and UHD TVs can enjoy quality content through the Amazon Prime Video streaming application starting Wednesday. The HDR 10 Plus technology is a next-generation standard for high-resolution video content promoted by Samsung.
Quote:
Around 100 TV shows and movies will be provided with the HDR 10 Plus standard through the platform, including "The Grand Tour," "The Tick" and "The Man in the High Castle." Samsung and Amazon plan to expand the number of titles down the road.
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news...002300320.html

I assume some of those shows are also available in Dolby Vision, so I may get a chance to compare HDR10+ on the KS9800 to Dolby Vision on the LG C6.

The Kardia algorithm has a lot of trouble with PVCs. Something they ^ are apparently unaware of.

Getting into that industry would probably have made my work more socially useful, but less lucrative. Hence, I chose finance.

I'm alive and somewhat well (sinus infection)...

Just nothing to really comment on except the possibility of Dolby Vision on FOX releases in a year or so after Disney finishes absorbing their assets and starts putting them under their own authoring and distribution systems.

Which is also takes a hose to Samsung's fire dream of putting HDR10+ on disc.

Good to hear you and I assume yours are not victims of the fires (a friend of mine lost a beloved horse at that stable down in San Diego county and she’s heartbroken )….sometimes people disappear for awhile and I fear the worst, i.e. Ray from Irvine.

For those not following Peter’s comment regarding Disney and Fox -

I’m just happy that projects at Disney continue progressing unabated given John L.’s sabbatical….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post14443693

Yeah, I’d like to know the workflow details of that Spanish production from last summer. I’m thinking that if ITU recommendations as to best Operational Practices in HDR television production - https://www.itu.int/dms_pub/itu-r/op...2017-PDF-E.pdf (published several months after that broadcast) had been available to the Spanish folks for reference and if Sony’s S-Log3 were used as the mastering format in the truck (to later convert to PQ, HLG and HD SDR for distribution) I think you might not be quite as unsatisfied with the HLG color rendering in that show.

All that said, still, I’d say most are of the opinion that PQ color rendering looks more elegant.

Dan’s newest table above reminds me, I’ve got to update this list - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post14440081
with two more movies on Blu-ray (in contradistinction to DVD) that AMPAS voters have just recently received in the mail. Will do so later. Work beckons.

Hey guys, new guy here.

I've just ordered my first 4KTV and Xbox One X, and I have a few questions about HDR I'd like clearing up while I patiently wait for both packages to arrive.

So from what I'm reading, HDR is a function you have to "turn on" on your TV that pumps the contrast and colour up etc. For example, torrent files in HDR come with muted colour and the idea being when you turn on the HDR it puts them to how they should look.

My question, what happens when you turn on HDR when you're just watching a normal BluRay movie, or digital file? Is there much - any difference? Does it oversaturate the picture? Or does it simply not work because your file is not HDR compatible?

I'm also reading that 4K players supposedly upscale BluRays to 4K, but I'm not holding out too much hope on that one. We were all promised our BluRay players would upscale DVDs to 1080P, and I've never seen that happen. Can anyone tell me of their experiences with this?

Also, how does Netflix work with HDR? I've heard some titles are compatible, is it the same situation? You just turn on HDR on the titles you know work, or you have HDR turned on and only the titles that are compatible will make a difference?

I'm also looking for 4K movies set in a 16:9 aspect ratio to really take advantage of the screen real estate rather than the 21:9 black bars. Yeah, I'm "that guy". The main one I've seen so far is the new Smurfs movie, which looks unbelievably better than it has any right to on BluRay. Does anyone else know of any fullscreen 4K movies?

Either way, I'm very excited, and am looking forward to watching GOTG2 and Wonder Woman in 4K HDR on a 50" screen as a Christmas present to myself.
