Can anyone tell me if these cables are a bad choice for connecting HDR TV/Receiver/Player at a distance of over 15-20 feet? Any suggestions?

I think so, especially since it's royalty free. The question is if this layer will replace Dolby Vision or not.

I am waiting patiently for DaVinci Resolve to include HDR10+ support, they are usually pretty early. They had Dolby Vision support way before any disks came out. The difference is I will be able to master HDR10+ content on my own, while Dolby Vision is a boatload of licensing fees and hardware.

Nice. Maybe you'll be able to give us the first HDR10+ content (outside of the demos Samsung has been showing off at these conferences) to test on our TVs. Amazon is supposedly going to be releasing HDR10+ "soon," but no one knows exactly when.

I wonder if/when YouTube will support it.

I never confirmed that it would be added. Just that it was proposed and would be an optional layer. There's more than "it's royalty free" to consider when updating a technical spec.

Let me re-state that. The fact that they've proposed it, and the fact that they've formed this substantial alliance, pretty much confirms that it will be added.

I don't have any experience with longer cables, but they do not advertise "Premium Certified" in the Amazon page. They sound like they could be fine, but why not get the certification?

My understanding is Monoprice and Blue Jeans are prem cert and are very affordable. Take a look at those before making your purchase.

I think it will be another additional optional layer. I doubt they would remove dolby vision from the spec?!

Ignoring Technicolor HDR, surely UHD BDs will be either
  1. HDR10 only
  2. HDR10 with an optional Dolby vision layer
  3. HDR10 with an optional HDR10+ layer

The downside is that this forces a choice between 2 and 3, instead of allowing 2 and 3 on the same disc. We were told that HDR10+ was backwards-compatible, but as covered earlier in the thread, it's very sadly not going to be possible to have HDR10+ as the base layer.

Some people think that 2 will account for 90% of releases. Some think only a few. We've only had a few of that type slowly drip out so far, so it's far, far too early to predict with any certainty.

Awesome! It would be great to be able to have the same test clip as two files, one in HDR10 and one in HDR10+ to actually be able to test for a visible difference!

Vincent's HDR10+ video today shows a few things. First, several very rude idiots walking in front of the camera - breathtaking arrogance.
Second, both TVs clearly say "HDR(PQ)" - so even on a TV which has the capability of HDR10+, they are still not telling the user it's HDR10+.
I hope this changes in later firmwares.

Although I’ve posted about HDR10+ and Technicolor HDR, especially most recently, as a reminder to full disclosure, I favor Dolby Vision’s approach and have gone on record as saying so, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post12192776 because among other things, scientifically, it is more technically elegant and future-proof.

But, keep in mind, we are all different and I’m picky about favoring a lot of things in life which the general public might not feel is needed for their purposes, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post10776283

Even when I relax - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post14022479 <- considering the expense.

Anyway, I believe that competition makes all the HDR approaches better, in one way or another.

All the premium hdmi cables seem to go up to 15 feet and even those are priced higher than even my UHD player [emoji849]

According to the video's description, HDR10 is on the left, and HDR10+ is on the right.

The camera can't capture the dynamic range correctly, so it's not a great video by any means. There are some subtle differences in some of the scenes.

It's shot in 4K though, so it's best viewed on a TV.

Ah, I see. The one on the right looks more blown out in a lot of scenes BUT this is likely due to the brighter HDR10+ presentation blowing out the range of the camera, as you say.

Noticed some differences in the colors as well.

In some scenes, the HDR10+ pops more. In others, there's no extra pop, but it just looks different. Only the director and cinematographer can say which one is more accurate.

Thumbs up BUSINESS WIRE: MStar Adopts Dolby MS12 v2 to Bring Dolby Atmos to TVs Everywhere

http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...v2-Bring-Dolby

“This is the first generally available integrated circuit (IC) in the world to support MS12 v2.2 GA as well as Dolby Vision™, enabling OEMs across the globe to bring the latest in advanced audiovisual experiences to mainstream TVs.”

Dolby was feeling a little left out with all this HDR10+ talk.
