Rendition is important not only to some of us here at Blu-ray.com, but another who has gotten himself a noticeable haircut since last time most of you have seen him on TV at an awards show - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB3jJcU7Sv8#t=8m30s

^ The same crew (Director, D.P. A camera first assistant, colorist), reminds me…..for those who may have missed the theatrical HDR presentation at a Dolby Cinema, keep an eye out for Only the Brave - http://www.technicolor.com/en/who-we...een-only-brave (4K DI from F65 raw acquisition)
coming to UHD home media. |

Back from riding with some of the boys (and girls). Wrist feels good.
Although these aren’t necessarily the HDR iterations (UHD Blu-rays), since awards season is approaching I thought folks might be curious as to knowing what Blu-rays (as opposed to only the regular old DVD screeners of past years) have gone out so far to various voting groups and since I don’t know where else to post it, here’s the list so far – Get Out (Blu-ray) Beauty and the Beast (Blu-ray/DVD) War of the Planet of the Apes (Blu-ray/DVD combo pack) Atomic Blonde (Blu-ray) Split (Blu-ray) Despicable Me 3 (Blu-ray) The Lego Batman Movie (Blu-ray) Wonder Woman (Blu-ray) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Blu-ray) Cars 3 (Blu-ray) The Beguiled (Blu-ray) First They Killed my Father (Blu-ray) Victoria & Abdul (Blu-ray) Mudbound (Blu-ray) Detroit (Blu-ray) American Made (Blu-ray) In future news, Sony Pictures bagged Quentin’s project, although Deadline already publicly scooped the story - http://deadline.com/2017/11/quentin-...io-1202210597/ Last edited by Penton-Man; 11-25-2017 at 04:34 PM. Samsung’s approach with regards to dynamic metadata ->
HDR10+ is a HDR10 base layer plus metadata in the SEI (from nearly a year ago - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...i#post12926259 ) which when launched can either be ignored or be used by one’s supportive television to improve tone mapping. In essence, it’s simply descriptive metadata and the individual television manufacturer then has the ability (and complete responsibility) on its own to determine how best to use that descriptive metadata in their own tone mappers. |

Oh yes. I'm not sure why you are emphasising the word "still" like that - it's never ever been claimed that there was a "golden reference" equivalent built into HDR10Plus and that was never one of the aims.

Because the handling of HDR10 mapping across manufacturers - indeed, across their own ranges - has been a bit of a cluster****, and if HDR10+ is STILL going to be subjected to these same whims then I don't really see the point of it.

Anyway, for those new members to this thread and unfamiliar with the concept of DMCVT (first expressed here over a year ago – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post12850908 This SMPTE standards webcast which aired 2 months after thee ^ above post, explains the concept of dynamic vs. static tone mapping. in general….. slides from the webcast - https://www.smpte.org/sites/default/...V2-Handout.pdf It's a little dated by now, but a decent Cliff Notes for those new to the topic and overwhelmed by the technology. The quote in the post above ^ , reminds me. since I did a shoutout to Arri, Sony and Red on the last page I guess it's only fair to mention something new with Canon.
