Is that the PM basement bar? Nice. But it's national tequila day, mi amigo. I recommend you whip up a couple batches of margaritas. That'll put the wind beneath your wings.

niiice , does look very appetizing for wetting the whistle on a hot day
alas, what with the pandemic and all, at least among societally responsible folks, alcoholic congregating and such with lots of friends isn’t going to be happening again for quite a while like in this merry scene from the 2nd trailer -

little known fact is that some real-life naval aviators were invited and thusly were actually casted in that ^ bar scene, the production design of said bar being patterned, as exclusively noted at the time, after this - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15774685

LG to launch 163" 4K MicroLED TV 'soon'

Quote:
Like Samsung, LG is exploring the concept of microLED displays assembled from modules. Its first commercially available product is "coming soon" but expect it to be out of reach.

LG recently installed its first LED cinema screen. The company's first commercial microLED display will be more advanced with a pixel pitch of 0.9 mm (compared to 3.3mm for the cinema version), allowing LG to build a 163-inch display with 4K resolution from smaller modules.

The key to making microLED a viable alternative to LCD and OLED in the living room is reduce the pixel pitch and bring down production costs. Or as LG's arch rival Samsung prefers to say: "The smaller its gets, the more vivid our future becomes". At CES 2020, Samsung announced plans to launch "home ready" microLED TVs in 2020 but it has not provided an update on its plans since.

I've got a Panasonic UHD player coming tomorrow. Had to replace my ageing BD player. This will be my first time connecting a 4K player to my 4K TV.

At present, my TV is calibrated with the AVS HD 709 disc.

Am I correct in thinking that it is okay for me to continue with these calibration settings when playing blu-ray discs on my new UHD player?

And what about 4K discs?

8 bit Rec 709 SDR calibration is fine for Blu-ray discs, but 4k Blu-ray discs need a separate calibration due to the 10 bit, P3 and HDR features (plus Dolby Vision, which also needs its own tweaking).

The Sony α7S III is sticking with 4k instead of going to 8k.

Quote:
  • Video recording capabilities include 4K 120pi, 10 bit 4:2:2 color depth, All-Intra recording, XAVC HS format with H.265 codec and more
  • 15+ stop dynamic range for movies (S-Log3 movies)
  • 4K 60p 16-bit RAW video HDMI output for the first time in the Alpha™ series
  • New heat dissipating mechanism and dual slot relay recording enables over one-hour long 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 movie shooting

The Alpha 7S III offers in-camera 4K recording up to 120 frames per second, 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling, producing stunning video recording. The new camera offers a more flexible and efficient post-production workflow with a variety of advanced movie recording modes such as All-Intra and MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 coding (XAVC HS™). The Alpha 7S III makes it easy to integrate video recordings with other professional camcorders by providing three color gamut settings S-Gamut, S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3.Cine, allowing users to easily match footage shot on the Alpha 7S III with footage shot on the professional camcorders simplifying multi-camera post-production workflow. In addition to S-Log3 gamma curves, the Alpha 7S III supports an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile with minimum post-production. The Alpha 7S III also allows up to 4K 60p 16-bit RAW output to an external recorder via HDMI Type-A connector, offering additional post-production flexibility.

Thanks Are there any HDR calibration discs that are similar to AVS HD 709 or the THX Optimiser? It would be good having some piece of mind that I'm at least in the right ballpark.

The AVForums.com review of my TV has recommended settings for the HDR input, which I've applied for now.

I popped in The Shining 4K disc and it looks incredible. I didn't really know what to expect from 4K over 1080p but the difference in detail between the two resolutions, and how close 4K looks to film, is quite something.

I will warn you that it is more technical than your average calibration disc. They are also working on a part 2 with more advanced features.
