With how they left things at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 I agree it would be a good idea to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 be the Sinister Six film. Especially since Andrew Garfield has made no plans in playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man past the third film.

As for the spin off films, I think it would be great to see a Venom film take places between The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 so as to introduce the symbiote in the third film perhaps and bring in the black Spider-man suit.

The movie should focus on how one can realistically jump into a relationship after a loved one dies rather than spending months in mourning.
[Show spoiler]With Gwen now gone,
They will no doubt finally bring in Mary Jane Watson into the franchise and I think it will most likely focus on their friendship and her being there for him and helping him through his grief leading to the two of them getting together at the end of the film.

Hearing whispers today this project has been killed.

Thanks to ASM2, which lost a ton of money for Sony. And the sequel to ASM2 has been halted (most likely temporarily).

Ugh, that sucks! Finally we got good adaptations of spider-man and the Raimi fanboys had to screw it over.

Unless Rami fanboys=general audience, then no, they did nothing.

It just wasn't that well received to justify sequels and spin-offs.

Well I'm sure we'll still get Amazing Spider-Man 3, hopefully they will just take their time with the script now and not rush out a film with a bunch of villains that have no time to develop. Also, this Sinister Six film was a bad idea from the start.

I actually enjoyed both Amazing Spider-Man's, the second film more than the first, but I'm happy that they aren't trying to rush out 6 villains. They should have 1 or 2 villains per film, leading up to the Sinister Six for the 6th film.

Based on box office, no way this franchise makes it to six films. They will be lucky to get 4.

I never felt for a second that the Sinister Six movie would actually ever happen. I always saw it as this pipe dream that Sony had, but would never actually get off the ground.

Figures that the fans get the short end of the stick with this whole situation. Of course The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will happen -- Sony has nothing else. But it wouldn't be on hold (however temporarily) if Sony didn't get ahead of themselves and screw over TASM2 for the sake of establishing and expanding the universe.

I like both the Amazing Spider-Man movies, but TASM2 has studio interference written all over it. Sony put too much of a focus on "universe building" in TASM2 that it, ironically, put their universe in jeopardy.

ha wow talk about starting a rumor and false speculation.. TASM2 made over 700 Million WW, how exactly is that losing a ton of money? they wanted to get to a Billion but fell 3 Million short. They moved TASM3 to 2017 to sort some shit out. New writers/director/producers etc. I personally think we get a Sinister Six movie first than Spiderman 3, but not a shot in hell is Spiderman dead and noway will this get rebooted again or sold to Disney

Snicket didn't start a rumor. There are sources to the whispers he's been hearing.

And while the WW box office wasn't a disaster, the domestic box office was a major disappointment. Especially when you take into consideration the true budget of TASM2 (including marketing).

There is a solid chance The Sinister Six spinoff will collapse into development hell pretty soon.

I was waiting until a post like this came along...let me help you.

1. I did not start this rumor.

2. Spidey did $705 million worldwide, with just 28.6% coming from the US (This is important because studios have different distribution deals across the world, so money earned in the international box office does not come all back to the studio in the same way it does in the US.)

Source

3. The production budget for Spidey was north of $250 million. (Source) This means that just to brake even, Spidey would have to do 2.5x this number, again, just to brake even. So while a haul $700 million looks nice in reports, that's only $75 million in profit for the studio (roughly). With international consideration in mind, and we know the production budget was only a minimum of $250, Spidey'a actual profit for the studio was only razor thin (if anything at all).

4. 700 million is not 3 million short of a billion, it's 300 million short of a billion.

Yeah. ASM2 was good to pass the time but you could tell something wasn't right with the Franchise. I think the audience just didn't/couldn't connect with Garfield like it did with Tobey.

With Some luck maybe Raimi and Maguire come back and give us one last movie that makes us forget Spiderman 3.

To be fair, practically everything underperformed at the box office this summer in North America.

how does this help me, I already konw the facts you stated.. yes i forgot 2 zeros at the end of 3; mah mistake.. And nothing you have even listed above states what you originally stated. They will make profit on this all said and done with BD/DVD/Digital etc. even movies like Waterworld eventually made a profit; yes it took like 9 years to do so but this movie didn't bomb, it just didn't lead up to expectations Sony was hoping for. They screwed up in a few areas and marketing was one of them.. Too much money was spent on something that pretty much can sell itself. This is Sonys Big money making franchise they aren't just going to cash in and said its over.. they have a plan and had a play after TSAM, however they now need to tweak the plan a little bit. Just an adjustment they will have to deal with and I'm sure it will work out fine.. We will see either Sinister Six or TASM3 in 2017; trust me

As someone who liked the second film...it was a complete mess. There's no way around it, Sony blew their load with the second film hoping to cram as much stuff in as possible to rush the Sinister Six Formation and it bit them in the ass.

Now, their back is to the wall because if they go forward they are or sure looking at diminishing returns and they can't reboot the franchise a second time without pissing off the audience again.

its crazy how not one movie has grossed over 300 Million Domestic thus far this year.. Yes i Think Hunger Games will do it but thats about it. You can go back over 7 years and scratch your head after looking at the numbers to see what went wrong this year
