I heard HDR10+ was coming from 20th Century Fox in the future, however I did miss the post about Mill Creek offering the first HDR10+ encoded Blu-ray disc in December. Thanks for the info. Any high-end Blu-ray player that does not offer both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR well be a deal breaker for me now. Consumers need to flood Pioneer with emails requesting either a second generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player with HDR10+ or if technically possible the existing Pioneer Elite UDP-LX500 needs a firmware update to offer HDR10+ if the hardware supports it. I guess the question is if existing hardware can be upgraded to HDR10+. Not sure if it's an easy software update or if more is involved. It would be nice to know the process and which hardware (players and TVs) can be upgraded.

IMHO the majority of industry has a wait and see view of HDR10+ and this surprise release of two Mill Creek titles supporting it doesn’t change anyone’s opinion. It gives vendors some test media, but still represents an oddity/novelty rather than broad marketplace support. Samsung the principle behind this standard has worn out its friendship with always doing their own slanted comparisons to competitors and though Panasonic is using HDR10+ support as a marketing tool, the rest of the marketplace needs a lot more convincing to inspire Pioneer Electronics to add it.

So as far as discs go for audio folks, there isn't anything missing and it's pretty much just HDR-related stuff like Dolby Vision. Maybe it doesn't support HDCDs I'm not sure, I've never cared about those but I do care about DVD-A and SACD so when my Pioneer 62FD crapped out this, for $228, seemed like a good choice. |

If the X800 played DV movies it would probably be the absolute best bang for your buck. If you don't care about DV (or HDR10+) then why make a change? I'm guessing Sony will have a replacement for the X800 and X1000ES soon but there's no telling if they will support everything that the X800 and X1000ES do now. For a paltry $650 more you can upgrade to DV and 17 lbs of player weight!

For USB 3.1 it should be 5V 0.9A. It´s the same for UDP-LX800, no USB 3.0/3.1 port. |

In these days and age you want high speed USB 3.0 (blue) ports. ...0.9A to 1.0A
I don't know if Pioneer is saving money by having only USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.0 (black) = 480 Mbps USB 3.0 highspeed (blue) = 5 Gbps USB 3.1 superspeed (blue) = 10 Gbps USB 3.2 ultraspeed (blue) = 20 Gbps Last edited by LordoftheRings; 11-09-2018 at 06:57 PM. |

No USB 3.0 is inexcusable for a 4K UHD player though. This feels like an improved BDP-88FD except without all the bells and whistles inside (the BDP-88FD was a truly well built BD player). This is for users that just care mainly about disc performance as I am sure the picture is amazing on this unit. The BDP-88FD has a really amazing picture on it to even with Qdeo as the chip used for video processing. Anyone know what chip is used for the LX500? |

![]() I just noticed that Robert typed BDP-LX500 in the thread's title instead of UDP-LX500, a very minor typo. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 11-06-2018 at 01:07 AM. |

Hi All, first time poster, long time reader here. I'm taking the plunge into 4k and was putting together a home AV system with control4 integration. previously, i was seriously considering the panasonic ub820 for my 4k player, but when I found out that i wouldn't be able to integrate it with control4 I started to look at other players that could be controlled through control4. that led me to the LX500. my question to those who have experience with both the pioneer and panny ub820; is the panny a good enough player that would outweigh the lack of control4 integration as compared to the LX500? I know this is pretty subjective, but i was hoping for some feedback that could give me a good starting point in my decision making process. we typically watch more movies than listen to music alone, but thats not to say we wouldn't appreciate a finer music listening experience. our tv will be the sony a8f with arcam receiver avr390. is there anything else that I should be considering as i make my decision? appreciate the assistance. thanks

If all you want is a universal UHD Player (yes even SACD/DVD-A) with Control4 the $999 UDP-LX500 is a nice fit offering good/video playback for your system with Dolby Vision support. Quote:

Because everybody is busy with turkeys, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and all the shopping news rush.
...All those 4K discs for only $8 and $9. There's no money left for an upgrade 4K BR player. |
