Pioneer is really no different then other mainstream brands. They don't for example incorporate new technology as fast as D&M. Onkyo is the same way that owns them. Yamaha is slower also. This comparison is recent implementation of DV pass though and later being able to display the status interface over DV.

While they make very attractive AVR's don't give Pioneer Electronics too much credit as it took them awhile to come out with UHD BD players. Yes they were slow as sloths!

D&M is the champ of fully packed features.

Pioneer/Onkyo/Integra is the champ of value.

Yamaha is the champ of reliability.

That's my opinion, it means less than zero, but Pioneer can afford to build affordable Universal 4K Blu-ray players if they want to. Pioneer Elite and Kuro was the King of AV world for many many years, going back to Laser Disc and Pro Logic and Plasma era (King of Black).

Again, just my opinion based on zero knowledge and zero experience and zero value. ...Something I believe in till I believe in something else ...
I am zero when it comes to music and movies and gear, less than zero.
I shouldn't be alive, exist. I died a long time ago, to never reborn ...

I just talked to my local retailer they are looking into this but they are saying right now this 789 price is less then what they are paying for the unit direct. They have checked other authorized dealers and they all still have it listed at 999. Even Value electronics has it listed at 997 still on their website.

At the time of the post you quoted Robert at VE had this player at $789, he even commented right after the post. Apparently that price was short lived.

World Wide Stereo has this for $769 and they are an authorized seller.

I understand Robert commented but no authorized dealer I am seeing locally has this for that price. These guys are fighting it because its way below cost on a current player.

See if they will price match World Wide Stereo. If not return it to your local dealer and buy it from WWS while the deal is still on.

With inflation in electronics and Blu-ray players in the last year and a half, its nice to see a Blu-ray player at $330 off the list price of $1,099. $769 with free shipping is a great deal.

Yes I see the price range is between $769-$999 for this $1,099 Pioneer. The price might not last that long at $769 and could go back up again to the $999-$1,099 range in September or later if inflation kicks in more.

At $769 that might be below dealers cost (not sure), and local dealers might be trying to sale it at $999 or $1,099 so that they do not lose money on the Blu-ray player. There is a lot of competition going on and maybe Pioneer might be having trouble moving inventory when Sony has two different models of 4K Blu-ray players that play SACD/DVD-Audio discs also. The entry level Sony is $300 and $600 for the model that is more comparable to the Pioneer, but the Pioneer has better build quality and comes with a 3 year warranty. The only 4K Blu-ray player that is better then the 2018 Pioneer UDP-LX500 is the 2016 OPPO UDP-203 which is no longer in production.

When is Pioneer going to come out with a firmware update to offer HDR10+ support? Right now people that do not need SACD/DVD-Audio support are going with the Panasonic for $999 that offers HDR10+. Both the Pioneer and the Panasonic have excellent tone mapping.

Default UDP-LX500 FW July 25 2019

On July 25th 2019 Pioneer came out with a firmware update (V01.13) and the easiest and most reliable way to install this is over the wired 1Gbps Ethernet jack. Also the front USB port can be used for firmware updates with a USB flash drive for those that do not have a wired home network.

quotes:

"CHANGE HISTORY:

Version V01.13
- Improve playback compatibility of certain 4K UHD Blu-ray discs.

Version V01.12
- Improve stability of playback for, BD-R/RE and SACD.
- Improve stability of playback web content.
- Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.

Version V01.08
- Minor bug fixes and improvements stability."

The LX500 at $700 and change that's a great price. If I didn't have a UB9000 and Oppo 203 as my main players I'd probably bite for that price. Nice build quality, excellent remote and brilliant video and audio, what's not appealing about it. If you have a cheap BD, DVD or UHD player and are in the market for it and want something nicer, grab it while you can at that price.

Yeah, $769 to me means that's who I like to do business with.
I love my local audio/video dealer, he's a nice guy and it's always with a great smile he accepts my credit card...he truly looks happy and that makes me happy too, but it does cost $330 more for that happy smile on both sides.

@ $769 I won't see a happy smile but I won't see a sad face either.
All I know is that my credit card is happier ... isn't it what it's all about in the year 2019? Of course it is, and that makes for a happier and better world for all, because we all are passionate about audio and video since we were young boys ... for the last sixty years plus ...

If we didn't like music and films we would never see happy smiles from happy faces. ...And our bank accounts wouldn't smile either ...

The world is what we make of it, with all the smiles in & out.

Probably, but what they did say is about as vague as possible. Someone will have to test it.

To me it's very clear; zero mention of HDR10+ support.

And indeed, someone is about to confirm it after testing it.

I hope so. I still think "Improve playback compatibility of certain 4K UHD Blu-ray discs" is vague

"Wave" in French is "Vague". ...I really doubt that Pioneer is "wavy" about it.

Promotional pricing deals are always timed and scheduled by each manufacturer.

Beware, that most consumer electronics prices will increase even further very very soon as the new tariffs will be passed along to the USA importers, distributors and retailers.
