OPPO and Samsung said something when they discontinued their machines. Not Pioneer.

I’m offended Oppo doesn’t get the super special Chinese company “O” moniker.

It won't. Some people are Pollyannaish when it comes to disc, they don't want to see or acknowledge the facts. All the data tells us disc are going out. You don't need intuition or psychic powers to see that. It's unrealistic to believe that Pioneer is going to release an updated version of the LX-500, or for that matter, any consumer electronics company.

Except physical media has been dying since its peak in 2000, its 21 years later. Will it go away eventually who knows. Look at the technologies that have made a comeback like Vinyl. The market indicates yes eventually streaming will be the major player. But as long as their is a market physical medias will have a place in many households. Will it be the top notch players like we are accustom to today, hell no as the market wont justify it. But 20 years from now you'll still be able to buy a 4K player from some cheap offshore company as someone will step in to maintain that spot.

The norm for many appears to be a 65" TV and sound bar. To a lesser extent an AVR with multiple speakers. A much smaller group has an AVP and multiple speakers. Most are not even aware of AVP's (some here).

Projectors probably make up a very small percentage of home theater displays but they are readily available if you know where to look (some here). It seems many believe if home theater components do not come from Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart then they must be on the way out.

Same for remotes, they believe Logitech Harmony's are the elite and not even aware of URC or RTI and others.

While you are a Debbie Downer on everything from OLED TVs to physical media and probably even puppies & kittens.

Your oft repeated predictions are not facts. You are literally telling us nothing that we all haven't already heard for years. But then again, when have you ever said anything positive or informative?

Sales revenue has been declining for discs since 2011 as everyone already knows, but then again purchases of video content in general have also been declining.

Still, we are getting more titles released across all formats (except 3D blu-ray). We would not be getting more titles on disc if the studios and their licensees were bailing on physical media. Physical media is just becoming more niche and there are countless numbers of niche markets that thrive. A product only needs to be significantly profitable to continue being offered; not every product is embraced by the great unwashed masses, but these products do just fine without them, too.

I have posted in the Digital & Physical: The Future of Home Video Discussion Thread over 5000 times. I am well immersed in the topic that is the future of home video. You continue to hijack this thread in order to make it your personal "discs are dying" You're not only wrong, you are boring as hell. We have been hearing this BS since at least 2014; you are just repeating what others have said before you ad nauseum.

Existing 4K disc players do what we need them to do and they are still being made; there is no real need for a new player unless some significant innovation comes along. All of Pioneer's products are scarce; their future as a manufacturer of anything is in doubt.

Never heard of this Singapore retailer, but seeing the LX 500 in stock anywhere is promising news!

$699 Singapore dollars is just $522.42 U.S., btw.

Yup. I'm skeptical to say the least. But the company itself has no red flags.
I already checked them out.

He doesn't like OLED displays despite having one, and he doesn't think physical media will survive despite owning a Pioneer UDP-LX500, the kind of player only a person who plays discs very often would buy.

Some people live to find fault with everything and then they try to ruin those things for everyone else. They are misery and they love company.

Don’t own the Pioneer player, have 3 UHD BD players, 3 BD players, another one in mini van, BD drive in one computer and UHD BD drive in another computer.

I’m interested in any new player and visit this thread to see what folks have to say about the Pioneer UHD BD player.

I have a soft spot for Pioneer, owned a Pioneer CLD-900 LaserDisc player for 19 years and a RT-707 reel-to-reel tape machine for a few years, it was a great looking machine and mounted in my 19" rack without adapters. Donated the CLD-900 and all my disc. The RT-707 was sold and replaced with a Teac A-3340S because it had 10-½" reels and was 4 channels.

So here is hoping Pioneer can continue and offer products that appeal to their target market.

My Pioneer DVL-909 laserdisc/DVD player is still working. I confirmed it again while setting up my new AVR.

Pioneer is an iconic company; I also very much hope that they can turn things around.

Stop believing in him. I have two OLED:
Anyway, I don't hate OLED, I'm just critical of its technical deficiencies. It can be better.

Your post history speaks for itself. You posted endlessly about, and greatly exaggerated, the risk of burn-in with OLED TVs every chance that you got and in nearly every thread that you could. Yes, you may own two OLED TVs, but owning something has NEVER prevented you from complaining about that something.

Now you think that everyone needs to be told daily, in multiple threads, that discs are on their way out as if your prediction is some kind of never before heard revelation. Your constant negativity isn't even original.
