Don't try to add to what a company has said. Wait till I get the response from them.

This thread has lost it's mind! It does make me reflect back on all the great a/v pieces from Pioneer Elite I've owned over time. I still have a DV-59AVi, DV-79AVi, and the great BDP-09FD connected to various systems. The one that gets the most use by far is the BDP-LX500. Whatever the outcome is for Pioneer in the a/v space I really do hope they survive.

Would anyone be so kind to explain to a layman why this Pioneer is so much better to cost nearly 4 times more than something like Sony UBP-X800M2? How big of a viewing/quality difference would it be comparing Sony vs Pioneer here? I see there's no Dolby Vision support on Pioneer, is that not an issue?

The Pioneer does have Dolby Vision, but not HDR10+ yet. Unlike Pioneer, Sony does not appear to have any plans of ever supporting HDR10+ on any of their equipment. Also, their player requires you to manually enable Dolby Vision output when playing a Dolby Vision disc and disable it when playing a non-Dolby Vision disc. The Pioneer, on the other hand, is smart enough to automatically output Dolby Vision (and maybe HDR10+ in the future) when such a disc is inserted. Also, if you look at the two players side by side and pick both of them up, and especially if you listen to their disc trays opening and closing, it will be obvious why the Pioneer costs a lot more.

Well, a 4K laser projector of high quality will set you back tens of thousands of dollars. I'm not going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a projector that doesn’t play HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. My current 720p projector was very expensive back when I bought it in the late 2000's. It is now on its second lamp.
