SA-CD and DVD-A is dead. Just because some baby boomers and gen-xer's have few funny discs that they keep playing over and over doesn't mean those formats are alive. Where are the millennials? They probably don't even know what SA-CD is. As for audiophiles, the same group of people that would spend thousands of dollars on cables and other snake oil type products are now caricatures, no one take them seriously anymore, in fact the audiophile world is a dying world itself.

DVD-Audio ok, it's pretty much close to extinction (only for hardcores).
SACD on the other hand is alive, in particular for Classical music lovers.
Kids today are into MP3 and YouTube.
Stereo Audiophiles today are into vinyl.
Multichannel music lovers are in the here and now between heaven and 3D.

For fun ...

Some of my best friends are . . . the analog vinyl people.
Some Classical music lovers are among my best friends . . . analog and digital, mono, stereo and multichannel.

On SACD (Pioneer Elite LX500 Universal 4K Blu-ray player) ...
Some music selections on that format ... only some ...

https://store.acousticsounds.com/cat/4/SACD

https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...ts/sacd/browse

Of course it's not like music selections on vinyl, but the Pioneer LX500 doesn't play those.
It does play CDs though, and Hi-Res audio philes. And, mono, stereo, AND, multichannel music recordings, and even Blu-ray Audio discs (High Fidelity PURE AUDIO).
...DVD-Audio too (I have couple hundreds or so of those).

But, for most kids nowadays MP3 audiophile sound is good enough.
And, it's more affordable too. And, you save money on exotic audio cables.
But, the Pioneer LX500 is NOT for kids, it's for adults, serious adult audiophiles, hardcore music eaters, surround sound music addicts, ...all that jazz. Plus, pretty Blu-ray pictures, DVDs, even 4K UHD HDR10/Dolby Vision Blu-ray discs in Dolby Atmos multipass sound (DTS:X), and very pretty moving pictures in color gamut expanded, highly dynamic in range.

I'm curious about the two new Reavon 4k players. I think they use the same chip(s) as the Elites.

Things seem to be very quiet on the Reavon's at the moment ?

Really hope we get some news and 'eyes-on' reviews soon as I'm definitely interested in seeing what they are like.

Someone over at the AVS forum reported that there's a new firmware update for this player for those interested.

You didn't miss it. It's a flat 2D group here, given the responses, or rather the lack of them. Imagine dropping a grand on a player without it!

I just checked and it's true (v1.17). I couldn't download the file with my tablet. I'll have to try later on a desktop.

Just an update on the new firmware....it was strange when I used the network option to get the new firmware. It said I was using v1.16 and the newest version 1.18 was available. I tried to get it but it said I was using the most current version. I downloaded v1.17 and updated it via USB without an issue. Now I'm wondering if there's an even newer version out there somewhere: v1.18.

Is this player still in production? Does the new firmware add HDR 10+ support?

Just put in lx500 in the search box and you should be good to go.

Well, it seems that Pioneer just isn't hardly doing business anymore. Their new receivers they announced way back at CES only recently showed up on their website, but even they're out of stock. Unfortunately, the Pioneer of today is absolutely nothing like the Pioneer of the '90s and even the 2000s when they were an absolute leader in the audio/video industry. It's just like what happened with BlackBerry. I have become very happy with my Panasonic machine.

Onkyo has also fallen far from where they were in the market between the 90s and 00s. The last Onkyo I owned was a 3008 but I wouldn’t touch one now until they show they care about quality again.
