Got it for $500 shipped for parts just need to fix the main HDMI port. I have a friend in another state that looks out for stuff for me that people recycle. The main HDMI port is literally destroyed on it.

I can fix the HDMI port if I knew where to buy a replacement one. That is why I purchased it from him. If all else fails I have good parts for my working one.
I don't have this Pioneer, but on all my players with 2 hdmi out, they can be configured to send both video and audio through hdmi 1 out or video through hdmi 1 and audio through hdmi 2.

Just ti clarify, I'm saying instead of replacing hdmi port 1 with a new port, replace hdmi 1 port with the hdmi 2 port- that is physically switch them out- not use the output of hdmi 2.

Why not contact Pioneer? I assume they still service the units or can at least get you parts? The 500 is still relatively new. Still grateful OPPO is servicing their players.

I agree with JWgreyhawk that you should try to swap the ports if you're only running 1 HDMI cable. Probably be your best shot.

If I'm not mistaken, there's an user at AVS forum with a broken LX500 that Pioneer is unable to service because they don't have parts.

Damn...I hope it's only temporary with the chip shortage. That is super frustrating though as the player becomes a paper weight.

I considered contacting Pioneer but I purchased it used for parts. I didn't know they are having issues servicing their own players, yikes. So no one knows a replacement HDMI port for this? hmmm.

Good idea and I had thought about it but kind of wanted to leave the Audio only port untouched. I may have to go for it though especially that no one here knows a good replacement port and Pioneer can't even do it which is crazy.

Like I said if all else fails I have good parts for my working one.

Anyone know what the problem was? the chip shortage would only apply to chips if they don't have parts in stock to service their own players that is not good news for Pioneer long term to continue manufacturing UHD players. Sounds more like they may not be making players anymore especially if they don't stock parts to even service them. It's to bad such amazing players destined to become a paper weight if they can't service them. Were not talking about Laserdisc players here. Modern tech UHD players like late 2010's. You would think they would have parts for these to service them.

"Chip shortage" is a loose/umbrella term for the most part but it pertains to most electronic components I would think. Hell..even car parts are hard to get nowadays.

I was in a similar situation as you as my Onkyo receiver needed a new HDMI port and they couldn't even get that. They had no ETA but offered me a new receiver so I gladly took that.

A player from 2019 should be serviceable...you would think. Swapping the audio port for the video one is probably your only option at this time. I would go for it if it gets you back up and running. I wonder what happened to your player for the board to be destroyed like that. Perhaps a power surge/lightning strike?

No I got it from a friend in another state that recycles electronics. I told him to be on the look out for any UHD players that if I liked it would buy it. Paid $500 shipped for parts. It was recycled because the previous owner somehow damaged the main HDMI port. My working one I got back in June is working fine just wanted another one since I liked it so much. Looks like my only option is to swap HDMI ports on the main board. No one knows where to buy a replacement HDMI port? It would be way easier.

They couldn't fix a faulty disc loading mechanism? wow. I feel bad for that user but at least they are getting reimbursed by Pioneer. Sounds like Pioneer may be out of the disc player business if they can't even fix a simple disc loading mechanism. Even Oppo still has parts and fixes their own players for a fee of course. They don't make players anymore but they still acquire and get parts to fix their players. Shame on Pioneer for doing this to a customer over something so simple to fix. Makes me glad in a way I have spare parts for my LX500 now.

It's just the connector? you can get those on eBay, you might have to grind some of the metal off to match yours to get it to fit, but they have a few different choices.

Best option would be finding the service manual and searching the part number, I'd imagine one of the Chinese sites has an equivalent.

Thanks. I knew about eBay but wanted to see if there is an exact part. So I did plug it in using the audio only HDMI port. When the player starts the Pioneer logo comes on and turns off and no video just sound. Makes me wonder if there is a way like the Panasonic players to get video going on the audio only HDMI port.

Does the connector have a part number on it anywhere? not sure if the second port would be suitable or if the different HDMI versions are software related or if there's any physical difference?

Even if you could output video from the second HDMI, I would assume it's HDMI 1.4.

Which is why this is so confusing as you got 2.1, 2.0, 1.4 etc for HDMI. I would assume this unit has HDMI 2.0 ports on both Main and Audio. I'll have to remove the mainboard and see if there is any part number on them can't tell without opening unit.

I believe the “Audio” ports on all brands 4K players are only rated as HDMI 1.4.

The video ports are 2.0 a or b. (and the a/b difference may just be firmware upgrades to the player’s operating system).

Aren’t there chips integrated into the HDMI physical connector? Or so I’ve been led to believe. Which is where you get the version differences.

Any update on getting your player up and running with a new HDMI port?

I can't find a good HDMI 2.0 port replacement to buy. I haven't done anything with it yet. I don't think it's a good idea to remove the audio only HDMI port despite what some helpful forum posters suggested. I do plan on fixing it still but right now it's just a good parts machine for my working one. I may get a parts UB820 and take the port off of it and put it on the LX500 if I can't find any good HDMI 2.0 ports. Taking my time with this repair I want to get this one right and I want the port to fit perfectly. I do have a UB900 still that I could use instead of getting a UB820 I may give that a shot. The UB900 though works so I would like to just find a parts machine for the port only. It would be easier though to just get the replacement port. All the ones online for sale seem to be for PS4's and Xbox's.

Gotcha. Nothing wrong with having a backup parts player while you hunt for the parts.

I got extremely lucky and I have a LX500 en route! I cannot wait to get it and put it through its paces. Been wanting one of these players for a few years now.

Awesome. congratulations on scoring one!

Amazing player you will likely be very happy with it. IMO the only player better than it is the Oppo 205 and not by much. I really prefer the LX500's video over the Oppo,Panasonic's.

As for the 2.0 HDMI port I may just do the swap of the UB900 port onto the LX500 if I can't find a compatible port.

Worst case though I got spare parts for my LX500 so it evens out if I decide not to repair it.

I don't think a Panasonic part would ever work on a MediaTek-based machine. Panasonic uses its own proprietary components.

The day has come! It has arrived!! I was not expecting the box to be so heavy. FedEx had it marked at 30lbs. This is one big girl but what a beauty!

Just hooking it up temporarily as I'll have more time tomorrow to get it situated into the rack. Anyone have any quick tips for me? Going to make sure it has the latest firmware in a moment and then fire up a disc!

It's just the HDMI port I'll be using. Why wouldn't that work?
