I almost did the usb update what stopped me from doing it was the issues people were having with ARC and I use it quite a lot. But it looks like is stable now after a second update so I might as well do it. My Tv is wall mounted (articulated full motion) so I can move it around with ease.

I've been running it since last month and haven't noticed any differences. I still sometime wake up or come home to my Z having turned on my pre-pro.

Seems there is a difference in 3D performance between the 65" and 75" models.
Someone over at AVS recommended me to try using the Motionflow setting again while watching 3D and so I did. I did some testing with Monsters vs Aliens and Dredd using the same pair of Sony 3D glasses on both my 65" and 75" Z9Ds. Enabling Motionflow (set to standard) on the 75" sometimes made the obvious crosstalk less severe and also made the bluriness that sometimes plagues the 3D picture less of an issue. But sometimes it also got rid of the crosstalk completely. I'm not saying this is a magic cure, but I think it sure makes a worthwhile difference! And as long as Cinemotion is set to off while Motionflow is set to standard, there is no SOE to my eyes. Enabling Motionflow also gets rid of the flickering. Unfortunately it has the opposite effect on the 65". Enabling Motionflow actually makes the crosstalk worse and stand out even more. I remember that this was talked about in this thread before. I take it the difference can be attributed to the different panels the TVs are using? |

Yes, there are clear differences (to some people) with the motion resolution (black smearing) on the 75 vs the 65, so this 3D oddness can also be put down to the different panels I reckon.
Double yes, activating the Motionflow on the 65" in 3D mode makes the crosstalk even worse than it already is, it's abysmal with MF on. |

But enabling Motionflow does indeed seem to help in certain instances. In no way am I saying it is a magical fix or does it completely get rid of crosstalk 100% all the time and with every movie. But from what I have seen so far myself with both Monsters vs Aliens and Dredd, it does actually make a worthwhile difference to various degrees regarding crosstalk in certain scenes... |

IMHO it still all depends on the disc/movie as to how crosstalk will exhibit itself on the Z9D. Some will exhibit more than others. With movies like Gravity and Transformers Age Of Extinction, there is no need for any "tricks" because they are almost crosstalk free on the Z9D to begin with. I just watched Pacific Rim Uprising 3D and the Motionflow "trick" did not work this time. It's not really that bad but there is crosstalk present from time to time. However when you pause the movie, the picture changes to 2D so I had to play a scene twice (once with and once without Motionflow enabled) to see if there was any difference. For example at the very beginning of the movie when the Universal logo appears on screen, both the first letter "U" and the last letter "l" exhibit the same amount of crosstalk with either Motionflow enabled or disabled. Perhaps you would care to check this out should you happen to own this disc? Or perhaps you happen to own Dredd and/or Aliens vs Monsters? If so and if you would be interested (and have the time), I would like you to check out a specific scene for each of them. ![]() |

![]() This picture was taken from the 3D screen so ignore the double images. With Motionflow set to standard, the lights in the upper left corner are whole and not double images. Also the thrusters behind the general's back are crosstalk free. The walls in the background on the left still exhibit some mudiness/crosstalk though. With Motionflow set to off, the lights are double images (very noticable) and the thrusters exhibit crazy crosstalk. The walls also are a bit more of a blurry mess now. This is a picture of a scene right after Dredd has "hot" shot ( ![]() ![]() This is actually a pic of the 2D screen. When watching in 3D with Motionflow set to off, the complete left side of Dredd's body is a double image. Set Motionflow to standard and the double sided left side of his body is gone. But like I said before, it does not always "work". ![]() During this Resident Evil Afterlife scene, it won't make a difference if Motionflow is set to either off or standard. The swords sticking out of the soldiers bodies remain double images regardless. Please let me know how these scenes worked out for you. I also did some testing with Doctor Strange yesterday. Will post this scene later. It's not a huge difference, but the difference is there nevertheless. It was also more of a hassle being able to see the difference, because unlike Dredd, MvA and RE Afterlife, this particular disc reverts back to 2D when pausing the 3D disc. So I had to play a scene and watch it in its entirety twice, once with Motionflow enabled and then with Motionflow disabled and then repeat the process a couple of times. So here's Doctor Strange. Watch this scene a couple of times with Motionflow enabled and then disabled (see timestamp in first pic for the beginning of the scene).
![]() With Motionflow enabled, the window in the door is a bit less of a double image and blurried than with Motionflow disabled. ![]() Pay close attention to the two lights left and right of the mirror in the background. With Motionflow enabled, the light on the left is almost crosstalk free (only a faint double image on its right side). The light on the right side still has a noticable double image though not as bad as with Motionflow disabled. Now when disabling Motionflow, it looks like there are three lights on each side of the mirror! Crosstalk really is that bad, especially regarding the light on the left side. ![]() Again take a look at the light on the right in the background. It has quite severe crosstalk when Motionflow is disabled. Enabling Motionflow makes it less noticable. It's still there, but not as bad. There were a couple of more instances in which I thought enabling Motionflow made a small to medium difference. It might not seem much at first, but IMO every small step of lessening crosstalk is a good one. But Doctor Strange remains a troublesome 3D disc to watch on the Z9D. It also has lots of instances in which there is quite some mudiness in the background of the picture. It's not very obvious crosstalk but still messy to look at. I'm curious if any other 75Z9D owners with these particular 3D movies (or perhaps other ones) will experience the same thing. Again this is not some sort of magical "get rid of all crosstalk everytime with every movie" cure, but I think there is definitely something going on here. |
