Does anyone know how the German disc for Magnolia compares to the US?

Also, how noticeable is it if one disc has a slightly higher video bitrate (say 5 mbps?)

5 Mbps is a rather large jump, but it depends on the bitrate of the lower disc.

If the lower disc is 15 Mbps, a jump to 20 Mbps should be quite noticeable (especially if there is plenty of film grain). A jump from 45 Mbps to 50 Mbps would probably not be noticeable at all, or if so, very hard to detect.

Also, codec matters quite a bit. A 20 Mbps MPEG-2 encode is (usually) worse than a VC-1 encode of the same bitrate, which is worse than an MPEG-4 AVC encode at the same bitrate.

Yeah, the UK version is the best. The DTS-HD MA track is wonderful. It is Region B locked though.

The us version is VC-1 and DTS-hd Mstr 5.1.

The UK version is AVC and Dolby-TrueHD 5.1.

I read somewhere that the DE version is the best. It also has a DTS-HD MA track...no English subtitles though.

I'm referring to The Thing (2011) US vs FR (steel). The US is above 30mbps, the FR is slightly under, which is why I used 5 mbps because it's no more than that. Same AVC codec.

Hey does anyone know if "Bruce Almighty" UK is better than the US version.

According to the specs here:

US is released by Universal & UK is released by Disney.

US is VC-1 Bitrate 21.35 Total Bitrate 29.11 DTS-HD MA sound

UK is AVC Bitrate 24.10 Total Bitrate 35.88 PCM sound

I can't find a review comparing the two.

Done. I can confirm that both the DE and FR discs are region B locked.
