Anyway its not very good.
Would love to see a comparaison with the others BD.
Caps-a-holic has a few screenshots from the US Image Entertainment BD: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=4235&d2=4236&c=1743

The European Sony DVD was not a bad deal at the time. It came with a nice settei booklet that's preferable to a steelbook. I'm surprised that the settei booklet hasn't been reproduced for other releases.

I just bought the AU release from Umbrella 15 minutes ago, so I know what you mean. I'd rather have lossy Dolby 5.1 @ 448 kbps and the Image Ent. video encode than deal with Funi's crappy release, even if it does have TrueHD 5.1 audio.

Is the Australian Blu-ray region-B locked?
Right now it's under $20 on Amazon.ca, and I might consider getting it if it's region-A compatible.

Finally picked up the Devilman OVA bluray from Discotek. I can’t believe it’s an upscale; it looks fantastic.

Okay, thank you. It's weird that the back of the cover clearly says region-B. Shouldn't it say region-AB?

<Back cover.

Everyone's complaining about the video transfer on Funimation's new SteelBook release, but are there any good comparisons between it and the previous transfer out there?
I'd like to know exactly what the fuss is about before I blind buy this film.

EDIT: While I looking at the Australian Blu-ray's back cover, I noticed that it clearly has the DTS-HD Master Audio logo under the audio.
I thought this release had Dolby Digital 5.1 audio? Is anything on the back cover correct?

The back cover is 100% incorrect. Except for the extras, those are right.

It is Dolby Digital 5.1 at 448 kbps in Japanese and English.

Essentially, with the new FUNi release, all the film grain has been reduced to macroblocking.

Sadly, there is no good comparison. I guess everyone saw it was a s**t transfer and decided to not buy it.

If it's not too much trouble, could you or anyone else list the exact extras that are included?
I just want to know if they're the same as the SE DVD or the Funimation SteelBook.

The “English cast reunion” was made for the new FUNi release, so it doesn’t have it, but I believe it has everything else. Don’t own it, but I believe it’s complete- baring that new extra.

Okay, I just ordered this on Amazon.ca, and it cost me $18.70 less than the Funimation SteelBook would have cost.
Now I just hope I actually like the movie.

Do the AU or UK releases of Bebop have the PCM 2.0 tracks? I have the image release but I'd upgrade for that sweet cover art.

I'm no audio expert, so which is better Dolby Digital 5.1 or LPCM 2.0?

LPCM is lossless, uncompressed sound. Dolby Digital is lossy.

It's hard to compare these two, because one is surround and the other is stereo. DD5.1 has more channels and the other is (much) higher quality.

I’d personally prefer an LPCM Stereo mix at 16-Bit over a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix at 448 kbps. Then again, I don’t have a surround setup, but in this case, the Umbrella disc is better than the Image one because it has the extras. Sure, Umbrella has the DD 5.1, but overall with the extras, it makes a case for the definitive release.

^ Not to mention the Image BD is hella expensive right now.
Amazon.ca's current lowest price is $99.00CDN + $5.54CDN for shipping.

I paid 4.50 for the Image Blu last year. I gotta eBay that shit.

Even in DD the 5.1 track still sounds good to my ears. The “Time to Waltz” and “What Planet is This?” sequences are killer in surround.

OK, final question: any difference between the AU and UK releases? Is the UK release B-locked? Same disc?

To my knowledge, it’s pretty much a port of the Aussie disc other than it’s region locked.
