While it is true that such a high exposure resolution may seem redundant, and I would have to scan it in 4K, the mere fact that its on a format like 70mm would make it a timeless viewing experience.
The reason I want to export the digital files at 16K and expose the movie onto 70mm would be a means of "future-proofing" the movie. I mean, look at all the anime mastered digitally without taking into account how they would look outdated and smeary when upscaled onto newer video formats later on. Contrast this to traditionally-drawn anime on film which are then scanned at high resolutions and look great on new video formats; (Provided the restorations and compression are good.) Scanning technologies improve, and compression gets better. But actual pixel count does not change... I want to provide an answer to this problem by mastering onto film. |

Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise (Anime Limited - UK/FR 2015)
Media-Info from the Anime Limited BD (this is the French version which is the same as the UK one). Keep in mind I always remove dub tracks when I rip MKVs so the English and French dubs are missing: [Show spoiler] I would link a picture of the bitrate but I don't have enough posts in the forum to post links (I discovered that the hard way when I made a post comparing the Spanish edition of A Silent Voice with the Japanese one that has been stuck in moderation hell for days) Last edited by KaizerChef; 12-24-2020 at 08:10 PM. |

Assuming it works, you can DM me the link (or split the link in pieces) and I'll repost it here. I think also some sites are blocked so you may need to (?)

Wasn't the Escaflowne Ultimate Edition movie disc a port of the Funimation disc? This post seems to imply that it is. |

Thanks to KaizerChef, here's a comparison of Anime Limited release with the Bandai 2007 Blu-Ray of Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise:
Code:
https://slow.pics/c/gXGB04Bv As expected, it appears to use the exact same master file as the one for the USA BD except for the brightness, which does not seem right for AL's release. See screenshots #2, #5, #6, #7 to really see what's going on. Bandai blacks aren't anymore on AL version. There's also a loss of grain, especially apparent in #7. Baccano! (Black Box - France)
Authoring: IDP Home Video Comparison with JP BD (JP BD shots courtesy of hissatsu via BigOnAnime) Code:
https://slow.pics/c/eYNUEBcw ![]() ![]() There's some slight color difference, especially in the reds. I think it was done on purpose because the JP BD commonly shows pixelated areas in this color i.e the Baccano chocolate bar (#2), where on the FR blu-ray it is kind of mitigated. The reds are less vivid. At least blood does not look like jelly but rather more natural to me. It might have been done to remove some banding too, e.g brown coat & face of #6. Beside that, it's on par with the Aniplex set but only 15€ or so. Last edited by SpaceDandy; 12-25-2020 at 10:51 AM. Reason: Fixed link |

Why did they reauthor a disc just for the one set? How weird.

Yeah, I was literally just about to post this. I noticed that the shots saved locally look the same, but not on slowpics. Never seen that before.

Wonder how the colors ended up wrong when he did that comparison nearly a decade ago. Wonder if that's also the reason for this on Spice and Wolf.

He used to do those sorts of comparisons quite often, it's been 4 years since he last did one (I embedded that earlier in the thread last year). That reminds me, there are 5 old posts of his I intended to embed remaining, but never did, though they're kind of redundant at this point in time, but I guess I'll still embed them soon. BTW, when looking through his posts, he posted this regarding Kodocha's JP SDBD in October. Quote:

Eh, screw it, I'll get those down now despite how redundant they seem, especially at this point in time. I had these links saved in a list for years, compiled from this I forever have saved in my bookmarks. This should be the last of these.

Remastered? Are you talking about where Sentai did a Blu-ray for shows that didn't have them in Japan? Only Kaiji comes to mind (S1 is natively SD, S2 is in HD, but was DVD-only in Japan). Then with Maiden Japan there's ToHeart 2. They released that on Blu-ray here, but it never got a Blu-ray in Japan, and it's NOT an SDBD. ToHeart 2 is from 2005, I got the Blu-ray recently, and it's definitely not an HD production, though I've not looked too closely at it. Sentai/Maiden Japan never got on the doing their own upscale train like FUNimation and VIZ did.
