This isn't just a player, it's also a recorder with 3TB of space.

According to this (German) link:
http://www.areadvd.de/news/panasonic...mber-in-japan/

it's common for Japanese manufactures to build recorders which demonstrate state of the art technology. The player also has XLR connectors and plays high resolution DSD files etc.

Buyers of this device also get two UHD Blu-rays with Japanese movies. Interesting...

Well it looks like they made there 2015 date then, it's just a shame that it's only in Japan. Although, even if it were to be available in the UK I wouldn't pay that price for any player. Nothing over Ł300.

I have no desire to understand or gain knowledge with regards to the workflow, nor will 99.9% of the general population. If the 'output' appears to have been hampered, or shoddily handled this I am sure will be reported in reviews on websites, word of mouth etc. etc.

We about to embrace a new format of which the standards are not even agreed, yet alone in place. Active vs Passive Technology, Dolby Vision vs The Rest, all sounds reminiscent to me of previous technology, and we all know how that is going

both monitors have same input and out res. Due to its wider contrast range, HDR content can show an increased perceived resolution to the HVS.

then, might be best for you not to take liberty in changing my posts as after my respectfully trying to explain to you the facts of the matter, it can later become apparent you’ve spoken above your expertise/experience and are now arrogantly embracing that ignorance.

I leave those who profess to have a handle on these matters to speak arrogantly and embrace the ignorance

I am sure most people will learn about the UHD BD experience through forums like this and would be alarmed if inference was being made by the knowledgeable that substandard product was about to be offered to the majority to the benefit of the minority.

Amazon have the right idea, a solution that offers what the majority want for what the majority have, with not a mention of HDR. The promotional materials clearly push the 4K Aspect of this product which is also being rammed down joe public's throat by the CE companies continually. That promotional pack from Fox back at IFA was a clear indication that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.

Ok, but I'd like to bust open the back of that wall to see what's really going on there.

I doubt 'Joe Public' has even the slightest idea that there is a such thing as 4k. Maybe that will change, especially if TV prices can come down and some significant 4k streaming content becomes available... maybe.

What exactly are you supposed to record with a BD Recorder? HDMI is encrypted with HDCP for TV programs and movies...

You can record your own camera recordings and maybe videogames, that's it. Doesn't make any sense....
