Off topic, but I have two unopened 4K HDR movies here...can’t decide which to watch tonight. The Patriot or Oblivion? Thanks in advance

Finally, RED (thanks Stacey) acknowledging something other than camera sensor resolution.

Good show (especially including the motorcycle and underwater scenes , as I am a longtime enthusiast).

I’d say Patriot because given these times I find this quote especially à propos to wake people up…"Every country has the government it deserves."

Maybe they can acknowledge and fix the terrible sensor and it's colour shift

What some in the industry should be concentrating their efforts on is building a production pipeline and supporting the display of 2160p120 content with 100/120 fps SoC, interfaces and such because for content with any significant motion, temporal resolution trumps spatial resolution, pixel shifted or not - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post15488741 .

I agree. It's a pity that interlacing has been thrown aside so casually. It's a very clever 70-year-old compression algorithm that gave us super-slick motion, and clear images when things slowed down.

“Not even HDR10+ allows for 12-bit color, but that's not relevant for most consumers, since there are no mainstream consumer TVs on the market now for displaying 12-bit content.”
^ Excerpted from https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018...nding-content/

Food for thought –
Is there any value at all to offering a 12-bit signal movie content to a mainstream 10-bit consumer TV which some journalists may be missing? as I see this premise stated time and again by AV writer/bloggers.

From a speech this past week at CEDIA are a Director’s (and Producer and DP) concerns over imagery with greater detail, color and contrast - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post15506232

It’s a fairly long transcript, but you can skip thru much of the first portion of his speech as it’s simply a rant continuation of the plea to TV manufacturers to stop configuring the ‘motion interpolation’ setting as a default setting which was an active campaign started about 4 years ago - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...o#post11691918
and is old news by now. Plus, I presume that one of the things the heralded ‘Netflix Calibrated Mode’ does do is to purposely disengage any motion interpolation setting.

Oversampling an image is rarely a bad thing, it forms a key component of Sony's attitude to such things e.g. Super Bit Mapping.

Default 12-bit displays & Dolby Vision future-proofing (12-bit)

you 'know' that 12-bit consumer displays are forthcoming, and soon?

you 'know' that Dolby, knowing this eventuality, 'future-proofed their Dolby Vision (content), thus 'not requiring a - yet again - upgrade to another untimely and unnecessary upgrade', insuring the best possible picture quality (now and in the forthcoming future)

thank you (Dolby - Dolby Vision) for your 'vision', saving me yet another 'version' to purchase
