Vincent must be loving you guys, that's four separate postings of that video in four different threads by different people.

And people are opening up unnecessary new threads all the time to clutter it up even more.

So you don't see the overall need to consolidate discussions which this thread, for example, has done?

I'm not sure there's a point to a single consolidated one when people keep posting the same video into every thread that's even tangentially related to the video. And it's not even you opening this one that I'm carping about, but the OLED one. Point being, there are so many threads already (and there is an actual section of this forum for display related discussion) that people are just gonna spam whatever new video is done by whoever in as many threads as they can think of. I admire your sense of public duty in trying to clean up the town but until you've got the power to actually close or consolidate threads then you're just adding to the clutter.

I found it quite logical and useful to post this video in the various threads involved. Different topics were covered in this same video (Sony tv, OPPO player and DV).

Bingo. Vincent whether some people like it or not is bigger than Jesus in the TV tec world. His videos are going to be used as discussion points all over the shop.

It's just sometimes that leads to other threads being completely dominated by one of his videos. So I made this thread as to try and concentrate that. Which I think it's been successfull at.

So I or someone else posts a Vincent video here, discussion might follow, it might not. But at least it will minimise/prevent the total madness we seen swamping the Blade Runner 2049 thread.

The OLED thread isn't a "video thread". I made it because there's going to be lot of new tec stuff concerning OLED, Panasonic coming to the states ect. We shall see if it takes flight, and then we have a nice one stop shop for OLED stuff.

The one thing that really grinds my gears is despite the obvious sticky for new to 4K/UHD, people still regularly start new threads for their own enquiries.

And yet you started your own "LOTR viewers ONLY" thread despite there being an existing one. Looks like loadsa people be starting new threads for their own enquiries/circlejerks.

Actually that was due to a few people, who hadn't even watched the film's, trying to completely dominate that thread to create a false consensus. I was the only one that went to town trying to sort that nonsense out, as everyone else knew they'd get dogpiled on. You seen the odd timid post that was worded like "don't shoot me, it's just an opinion".

And what happened in the thread I created to try and give people who've actually watched the UHDs a space to post? They dogpiled that thread as well, and you, even if you realise it or not, we're enabling them. Whether misconceptions about my intentions, or thanking their posts. Then it got deleted, I was sent on vacation soon after, and then the main thread got locked shortly afterwards. Draw your own conclusions 1) A Scottish guy lost the rag 2) A bunch of users, one ot whom is now probably facing a lawsuit for liable that was permanently banned, decided to hijack the thread to create a false consensus.

There was also a thread prior to mine that was about differences in the various releases, and there was another one after the TLOTR thread I opened. All of these threads happened i believe because of those few people.

A lawsuit? Come on dude, get over yourself. That's rich coming from me, I know, but every time you throw that word around it makes me chortle. People don't get sued for chatting shit on a forum, I'd have been locked up and had the key thrown away by the Bits Brigade years ago lol

Regardless, the actual video at hand was very interesting and Vincent's analysis was, as usual, spot on (it's his personal taste for HDR that I don't like). What I'd like to see now is further analysis of player vs TV-led using 'real world' content, there's a reason why the S&M Montage is regarded by Mr T as one of the "greatest grades ever" or whatever he called it: it's designed to be demo material, to be an HDR torture test that'll be valid for years to come i.e. to pump out colour and nits that no consumer TV can reproduce 100% (not now, and maybe not ever) which is why it makes Vincent so moist.

It's not like issues with player led haven't been identified e.g. the clipping and more of a generic mapping rather than a true 'fit' for the specific display: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post17899652. But as most consumer HDR content doesn't hit anywhere near those heights - call it Vincent's lament - then the limits of player vs tv led (or player led vs native HDR10 processing in my case for comparison) are nowhere near as apparent, if at all, especially in terms of solarisation and colour clipping.

PS

That he didn't put a 'ding' on the "I wouldn't want to come between them" line is unforgivable

To me, the 83" is the most exciting announcement. Because it will likely be the largest attainable OLED, and not a stupid $30,000 set like the 8K 88".

I think it's good Vincent went to YouTube a few years back, he basically had to as that's where everything was moving too. But it's too bad that we don't really have any other TV professionals in the YouTube world.. We basically get stuck with people like Quantum Apotheosis and other pretenders(tho some of them are still entertaining and informative). Besides for Vincent, is there any others? Can't think of any off the top of my head of anyone wants to chime in. Rtings has certifications, but that doesn't equate to professional status. The AVForums guys don't really have their own dedicated channels, just reviews here and there that may or may not be paid.

There's FOMO, but I don't think he claims to be some all knowing expert.

It's more the issue that as soon as someone puts their face in front of a camera it seems to imbue them with magical powers which make viewers think that they are seeing a "professional" expert who knows exactly what they're talking about at all times.

Vincent does a very nice shoutout about VE securing the exclusive USA distribution of Panasonic's Hollywood Professional reference displays for the USA.
