This is where I get confused with where to put the secondary audio cable to. And I guess I should connect the Earc port directly to the AVR as well?
TV's eARC into AVR's eARC, plug the player's HDMI 2 into any of the AVR's input, but I'd use the Blu-ray one to match the button on the remote to make things easier.

You may need to adjust the audio output of the player to match your soundbar capabilities. What soundbar do you have by chance??

It's a Vizio soundbar with surround speakers. 5.1.2

It is atmos and DTS:X capable. Strange enough, I get no problems whatsoever when I go straight to the soundbar.

One thing I'm noticing today, the limitation my be with my television set. BRand spanking new Samsung S95b. If the source is Atmos, everything is fine, but I have to switch to PCM if it isn't or else I have no center channel. Can't hear any dialogue. I may have simply had a loose HDMI chord with the cutting in and out sound. Working perfectly with everything plugged straight into the TV set and then audio being sent out. Just having that one problem without Atmos

Has anyone managed to get an answer from regionfreedom recently? I badly need 1.69A firmware for my UDP 9000, but I can't reach them.

How much did you offer to contribute? They are a bit like the “soup nazi” - if you don’t do what they like, you are ignored.

Pretty sure it’s all automated. If you don’t fill out the form within spec it’s ignored by the system.

40€. I have already completed the form successfully when I wanted to buy the enhanced version 1.66 of the firmware. And I did exactly the same for this one. With the confirmation and everything but I didn't get the email asking me to send photos of the back of my player.

I tried with offers of €40 & €50 with no response other than the automated ones. I'm not particularly bothered with modding my 820 as I already have the rattlebyte mod fitted in my 450 but it would mean one less player on the rack. Mr regionfreedom does not seem to be desperate for $$$ by any stretch of the imagination.

I did $50 a coupe of years ago when I got my player.
Totally ignored.
It's bull.
Either shut down or at least respond, don't leave us hanging.

Someone needs to figure it out and bypass this guy and do it for free/really cheap

Some of these suggestions seem pointless and just waste HDMI ports. If your soundbar passes 60hz 4K, then that is all you need to know. It either works or doesn't. The signal wouldn't come through in a degraded state. I don't have spare HDMI ports to waste on separate video and audio out of the player. I have a Series X and PS5 to plug in. Most manufacturers recommend going through a soundbar first for best audio results (no lip sych issues, etc.) Now the main reason to send the player into the soundbar first is how DTS is handled. None of the big three brands allow DTS passthrough when plugging your player into the TV first. You will need to plug into the soundbar or receiver directly to get it to work properly. Otherwise, the DTS sound is downmixed to standard Dolby Digital. You would lose out on any DTS:X audio, which is still used often on discs. The other reason is, like you, I had drop out issues when plugging the player into the TV first. This all may not apply to a higher quality receiver, but for a soundbar, keep it simple.

It sounds like your TV cannot decode DTS but it can decode PCM and Dolby Digital/ Dolby Audio.

If you are still worried that your soundbar isn't giving you the best picture possible, plug the player directly into the TV with the Video/Audio HDMI Port and then plug an HDMI Cable into the Audio HDMI Port and plug that into the soundbar. Make sure the audio in the player for the 2nd HDMI port is Audio Only and not Automatic and also make sure both DTS and Dolby is on Bitstream and the Secondary Audio is off. That should do it.

If not, just plug the player directly into the soundbar and then the other cable to the TV.

Seem to be all good stuff. :-)

Really happy with this player.
A question. What if someone use the modded firmware to flash their region locked UB820? Does it get bricked?

It probably wouldn't install as it's tied to the unique player. With the Rattlebyte mod the extra bits are on the mod as far as I know.

I appreciate all of the responses here I think what I'll do is have a separate hdmi for audio only from my player. That way I can make full use of whatever is on disk. I can settle for using PCM on my AppleTV for content that isn't Dolby

Get in touch with rattlebyte. They should be able to send you the modded firmware.

The firmware on its own is of no use. But I did decide to get the mod from rattlebyte for my 820 as the drive in my 450 has got very noisy lately and is very annoying. At least rattlebyte are easy to order from but I would have preferred a firmware only mod (if it actually exists) as my eyesight is not what it used to be.

I just got a Vizio Elevate soundbar for my LG G1 OLED and while Dolby Atmos content is playing perfectly on it from my UB820 through the G1's eARC port, I'm having trouble with other audio sources on the player. It'll play background noise and music, but the dialogue is completely mute. This does oddly get fixed when I turn on the LG's Sound Mode Share, but I'm not entirely sure if it messes the audio up in other ways. Is there any setting I could have wrong on my UB820? I have everything set to Bitstream and the Secondary Audio is off. I also have Bitstream running from the G1 with Pass Through and eARC enabled.

Do you know if you can move the rattlebyte mod from one player to another, assuming they use the same firmware? For example, if you had a modded 820 on the fritz and bought a new one, can you migrate the mod?
