Really? Well then maybe I'll have that option when I watch a movie later tonight. I have a issues with a couple of discs (different issues with each of those discs) so maybe that will help.

I'll be happy to be a guinea pig for the team! Something tells me though others will have it updated and tested before I get a chance to do so.

Woah! I just searched and I’m still seeing 1.76 as the latest firmware for the 820. Let us know what version you’re seeing?

I'm not aware of any downsides; I would consider it necessary.

Optimizer cannot be used in SDR mode this was possible with 1.69 and problem with Dolby Vision and Sony TV. These are the two things people report after update to 176.
If everything works for you don't touch. If you believe that the image will be better after the update, it's a pipe dream.

Optimizer does work in SDR mode on the 1.76 patch. I've tested it myself on an SDR TV with Goblet of Fire, on the infamous stadium sequence, and there is an obvious difference when toggling it on and off.

Same here. I wonder whether he is the same guy trolling my YouTube channel claiming the new FW is faulty.

Anyone know if the UK version of this player will work in Australia with an adaptor plug?

Australia is 240V. I don't know whether in the UK it’s 220V or 240V.

I believe it's the 1.76, I'll check later today. I haven't used the player in many months and did not know about the update. I bought the player over 2 years ago and it already had the latest update when I got it. I just am not sure if I should update it or not. Don't want any issues. I'm also torn with updating my Hisense U8H tv.

I ordered again a few days ago and was charged and the item shows as "IN STOCK" right now but a day later they updated it for my order as backordered with a ETA of May at this time. No real ETA to be sure. The website is a total joke and scam and they must put it up there for laughs.

I want the replacement drive so I'm keeping the order and if anything EVER shows up I will be not only thrilled but also pleasantly surprised !
Just curious, you looked elsewhere for the part you need?

Thanks for the reply. I've since found this page and it seems there won't be any problem at all:

OK, I saw the issue now, as halo said when the bully is bullying Horace. After each scene change, the whole image goes slightly darker after a split second for a few scene changes.

Not as noticeable to me as the bar at the top of the screen that changes on God Told Me To, but still worth a fix via firmware.

Watched a movie last night but didn't get a notice for a new firmware update and I didn't do a manual search for one either.

If there really is a new update, I know sometimes it takes a while for people in other areas to get the notice.

It’s always the Sony’s problem. To this day they are the only one who can not implement DV properly. After all, this is a company that sells “object based DTM” that doesn’t work and selling projectors in the 2023 that can’t do 4K/120 to support their own gaming machine.

LG has its share of issues with DV. Also, this "player-led DV" issue is also on the G3. Seems to be something related to the Panasonic getting tripped up when the EDID reports above a certain threshold.

Yeah, but Sony is the only one that never even bothered fixing the problem.

It's a current problem with the G3 too, is what I meant. It occured after Panasonic's latest firmware. The Panasonic players before the update, correctly send TV-led DV (on both the G3 and Sony). This one appears to be a Panasonic issue.

Sony would appear to have an incredibly weird relationship with DV, in general.

So someone on AVS says Panasonic support told them they intentionally put the player-led-over-a-certain-luminance behavior in to make subtitles look better in particular titles, and that Dolby told them player-led and TV-led look identical. So that’s fun.

Big LOL. Disappointing response by Panasonic.

But I guess it's just another reason to use HDR10 with Sony TV's
