After having the UB9004 for 3 months I want to say that it is a fantastic player. I just have one big flaw and was wondering if you folks experience the same problem. Too often the player breaks down. Especially when switching between Netflix and UHD Bluray discs. I than have to disconnect it from power and wait a while. Also too often I have to do a factory reset because the player gets stuck. Do you guys have similar problems?

All the Best Buys in my neighborhood (about a half dozen) are now showing the UB820 "IN STOCK" at the stores.

I periodically have issues as well. I've had to unplug it once or twice.

My biggest issue right now, is every time I pause it for more than 3 seconds, the audio is gone when I unpause it. My only fix so far is to eject disc and close.

Well that sucks - at this price point, and having had the units being used for some time now (and thus time for firmware fixes), this kind of error is pretty unacceptable. :-(

Have any of you having these problems made formal complaints/reports to Panasonic?

I have not experienced this issue on our store demo UB820 or our UB9000. I'll pass this on to engineering so they know.

why there are no discounts offered on the UB820?

Are there any discount coupons available for this model in canada?

Thanks
good luck with that! You literally cannot buy this player in a store and online allocations appear to sell out immediately. Kind of ridiculous really, you should be able to go to a store and buy an electronics item

I bought this player from Best Buy but it had a glitch so I returned it within 3 days of having it. Best Buy was already saying it was past the return window but did it anyway without any hassle (what is it anyway? 7 days? and that includes the shipping time?)

My box came to my doorstep uncovered (so anyone could see what it was driving by my house) and it was mangled to the point where the cardboard box was literally torn all the way across the top.

I know Robert said that I can order it from his company in a concealed box but I'm gun shy now....

I want to get this player again but I don't want to deal with shipping...

Man, how times have changed....

Yes, ^ we double box every UB820 and UB9000 to help ensure a safe delivery to your home and so your player and its box arrive in pristine condition.

I've seen others mention this issue, I wanna say I seen it at the owners thread on AVS.

My UB820 started acting strange at power on after the most recent firmware update.

When I power it on, it powers itself off (Goodbye) before getting to the Home screen. When i turn it on again, it stays on.

If I always power it on by using the eject disc button, it stays on.

I would try a factory reset and try reinstalling the latest firmware. You may have to use a usb stick with the firmware downloaded from the Panasonic support site. Try the factory reset first after unplugging the power cord for a minute. If that doesn’t fix things try reinstalling the firmware.

Could someone recommend an economic HDMI cord for the UB820?

What length are you looking to run? I have a couple of these in 8ft.

Not far. Six feet ought to suffice.

I think you’ll be fine with these at 6ft then. I have had zero issues with them.

Wow, I just notice this! You have a separate home theater in every room in your home?

Our main theater is in the basement of our home. But we also have a very nice theater in a spare bedroom that we converted to a light controlled theater. We also have a high-end theater in our showroom.

Premium audio, video and film have been a lifetime hobby and passion.

I use the ultra slim Monoprice Prem Cert and they handle 4k/60 without a blip.

For 6ft or shorter you can use virtually anything. I have Thunder Cable bought at least 8 years ago (it was expensive at that time, $50-ish) but it still works

Hey guys, got my UB820 hooked up yesterday and have been running through different movies to test out the PQ and AQ. Today, I've run through a couple of Atmos titles (Pacific Rim and Air Force One) that, by accounts I've read otherwise, should be louder than they're playing. In Pacific Rim, I had to up level of sub significantly to achieve the punch every bit of combat/Jaegars walking/kaiju roaring, and with Air Force One the overhead and surround effects of plane engines roaring/gunfire wasn't up to par with reviews I've read.

The UB820 is passing through to a Sony HT-Z9F to the TV, I can tell Atmos is playing while watching (the UB820's playback info classifying it as Dolby TrueHD, but based on my reading it is Atmos) but the overall sound just doesn't seem to have the punch I expect it to (playing Jurassic Park in DTS:X at 25 is deafening, I had to bring the volume up to 30 for these two titles to achieve near the type of sound I wanted/expected.

P.S. FWIW, I had an LG UP970 prior to this. I never had any audio issues with any title/feeling the level wasn't high enough.

Any ideas (being they are two Dolby audio titles), or am I just imagining it? i can rattle off any sound settings needed. And for anyone who tries to help me out with this, thanks a bunch. I've read through this forum thread for months in anticipation of getting this player and enjoyed every part of it, but I'm not quite sure how to resolve the (potential) issue.
