Is there any difference between the UB820 and the UB824? I see the 824 listed a little cheaper than the 820 here now. Panasonic has an informative page about the 820, but I can't find anything about the 824. Searching this forum provided me with a few mentions of the 824, and similar questions as mine, but not much answer to it, unfortunately.

The few webshops that offer the 824 doesn't even write anything about it. No mention of DV/HDR10+... I guess the player should have both DV/HDR10+, but I can't tell from the shops' descriptions and "specs"... No info from Panasonic.
Guess I'll probably just go for the 820 as the safe bet. |

Again I took out my purse and bought the 77c8. Ahhhhh finally enough brigthness(nits). Not long after suddenly the Panasonic UB9004 with HDR Optmizer appeared on the market. Ahh it was suddenly discovered that indeed HDR looked far too dark on displays that do about 750 nits. In your case the 9004/820 will do a very good job because you can set the optimizer to a brighter level without losing a lot of image quality. Maybe if the 9004/820 had appeared sooner I would not have bought the 77c8 although the size is off course great. Nowadays at the danger of being ridiculed again I have disabled Dolby Vision and HDR10+ in the menu of the player and just use the optimizer with HDR. Because you own a 6 series I suggest that instead of using ' Oled' within the optimizer set up menu try to use ' basic projector'. That way instead of 1000nits tone mapping it will drop to 500nits leaving you probably with a better picture and retain the BT.2020 color. Even better you can also use the optimizer with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Enjoy. Last edited by Bigbro; 03-13-2019 at 06:46 PM. Reason: typo |

The 824 is the 820.
It's just the European model's name. |

The UB9000's mandatory automatic shut-off after 20 minutes on pause is KILLING ME!
Why oh why did Panasonic make the auto shut-off something that we can't control? Why not offer the CHOICE of multiple options in the settings menu? Those choices could be (for auto shut-off): NEVER, 20 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes. I've written to Panasonic customer service to request just such a firmware change. But, Robert, PLEASE reach out to your sources/contacts and put the bug in their ear too! I realize saving energy is important but a measly 20 minutes is RIDICULOUS! Mark |

These players will make any TV look better. Even on my Panasonic 65FZ1000 OLED the picture is improved rather dramatically.

Not only is the HDR optimizer a great feature but the upscaling of Blurays and DVDs is probably the best I’ve seen outside of MadVR or Lumagen but these involve a bit more complexity or money.
