Have those who have used the player found it needs much tweaking out of the box or playing with the optimizer settings? When I tried the HDR settings button on the remote it tended to make the image way too blown out, so I've just tested it at stock settings so far. And I know with the sliders and stuff you can go down a pretty deep rabbit hole.
You can basically keep everything on Auto, and the HDR setting on "standard" (unaltered picture). The HDR Optimizer works good in some case by case depending on tv.

How is it dead? There are more than two, or three choices.
Next year will be huge boost for physical media with the PS5, and XBox Series X both of which will be monsters of tech supporting the UHD disc format. The PS5 alone will do what the PS3 did for Blu-Ray. The future for the UHD format is so bright I have to wear shades.

Of course it's worth the money! Why even bother with a format if you don't invest in a player that delivers superior quality? It's not like it's the most expensive player out there....
Not had any issue with my Samsung UBD-K8500 and it's still going strong and not seen a disk yet not play but it's time to upgrade for me and after looking I chosen the Panasonic UB820 UHD player.

I am upgrading to a UK Dolby Vision Player. It will go along side my USA Philips BDP-7502 Dolby Vision Player. I am letting my parents have the Samsung Player and they can play disks 4K disks when they want to.

I was originally leaning towards the Sony 800 M2 but I also decided to look around and did some research and well it lead me to the Panasonic.

Ok I am now getting annoyed with this player when it comes to blu-ray disks. Starting to find it seems to have some issue with some blu-ray disks. These disks play fine on my PC, on my older PS3 which i cracked open for testing, my Philips 7502, and my Samsung K8500 so it's not the disks. Might need to go back or get a different player.

You must’ve have a defective player. I haven’t had a single problem playing any disc for nearly a year on both my 820 and 9000. Sprry to hear your negative experience.

Possibly. I read somewhere someone had to wipe their disks. I just decided to wipe hard a disk that played in other disks and then it played in my 820. It's defiantly more flaky then my other players when it comes to blu-ray disks which is annoying so could be the laser not as good as the others. I could not see any marks but kept wiping it and then it decided to play the some of the disks.

I'll see if I have to do that with my other disks but my disks are very clean so I see no reason why I should wipe them. But possibly it's just a defective unit as I still can't get some other disks to play. Might go for an exchange.

I've had 5 disc's not play in my 9000, cleaning them allowed all 4 to play, one I returned to the store as the disc was brand new and I wanted to rule out a faulty disc. I tried 2 of the 5 in my old LG 4K player before cleaning and they both played fine in the LG without having to clean them.

Well at the moment now after cleaning the disks they seem to play with the exception of one disk (at the moment I just found one and I got alot of disks) but no amount of cleaning will make it play in my 820 but it plays in all my blu-ray players.

I like it but I should not have to be wipe each disk to get it to play on this new player where other players just play the disks as they should.

The issue I have is I got alot of disks and that be alot of testing in this new player. I know they all work and don't want to really test them and have the possibility of like 1 in 10 disks might not work in my new player.

Despite how the app interface looks, which is about as modern as the remote looks, it's the best way of using some of the apps like Prime. The HDR performance on this thing kicks, and handles it better than whatever else you may use for apps.

Got a minor problem; i have a video file in the MKV format, downloaded from youtube if it matters, that i'm trying to play on my UB820. I've got the Memstick plugged into the front of the player, it recognises it as a 4k video file, but won't play. Is the format incompatible or am i missing something? Thanks for your help.

The rear USB is the 3.0 USB. Front is low speed.

My Panasonic UB420 has been sent back to Madrid for another attempt to get it serviced. Both the local Panasonic repair service and aparently Panasonic Spain, where my player went once and got back as they said there was no issue with it, don't understand this: my player fails at reading the 3rd layer of a 3 layer/UHD BD 100 disc, so when it gets to the last part of the movie on such these discs, its picture breaks into macroblocks, freezes and sound cuts off. Is this rocket science what I'm explaining or both my local Panasonic repair service and Panasonic Madrid HQ have no idea of what I'm talking about and what are 3 layer/UHD BD 100 discs?
I've been over 5 weeks without my Panasonic 420 player, I'm watching my 4K movies with my other Sony X-800 but once I got used to the picture quality of the Panasonic is hard to go back to the Sony.
I can live without Panasonic's HDR Optimizer but I sorely miss how the Panasonic 420 does its Chroma Upsampling and picture quality in general. Color and overall picture quality is so good on Panasonic players.

I was playing with the YT app where I noticed that HD content plays at 720p. For comparison, HD content plays at 1080p on YT ATV app. How to get the U820 YT app to play HD content in 1080p? When you try to select the resolution, it max out at 720p. For 4K content, it plays in 4K and has other resolution options as well.

I took my UB420 to be serviced almost two months ago,it was took to Madrid to be checked and they said it was OK.Despite I told them a million times it didn't read the third layer of 100 GB discs they said it was OK. It was taken back to madrid over three weeks ago and still no news from my player.
The point is that in a week I'm moving to small town inland at 100 Km.where the Panasonic service is, I got my first job in 7 years after I had an accident over 7 years ago that left me disabled with my shoulders all messed up.
I'mnot taking two buses and a train to collect my player that should have been repaired ages ago.
