That’s only against Sony low latency profile support. With the Sony x700 being one week sooner. Are we now denying the fact you could watch Despicable 1/2 in June 2017 in DV?

In June 2016 there was no Oppo 4K BR player.
You are on a different page.
___

Anyway, those are very sad times...for Oppo Digital.

But these are great times...for Panasonic.

Well it won't be my ks8000 as Samsung dropped plans to support that with HDR10+ Yeah very future proof.**

Most of the industry is just waiting to see how this plays out for Panasonic. But you should try a UB820 if you need another player.*
I don't really understand your reply JohnAV.
My two questions were very simple.

When will you be getting your 820 or 9000?

True if you include the mess with Sony, and Dolby trying to get a version that could work with their processing deficient TVs. OPPO had it working with the other manufacturers that had adhered to Dolby’s guidelines already.
No knock against Panasonic. Dolby seems to take a while to certify manufacturers Dolby processing and I’m sure when Dolby finally gives the ok then we’ll see the DV firmware for the 820.

Default Apps & Skills MIA

Just checked Google Play and still no Panasonic app newer than 2012 for Panasonic Blu-ray players. Also checked Amazon Echo skills and the only Panasonic skill was for their TV’s. If they do provide a skill for the UB820 I sure hope it has a better rating than the one for the TV.

For me, the lack of an app really limits the use of the UB820 as a music media player. I use the Oppo UDP-203 and the Sony UBP-X800 as music media players all the time controlled by Android Opp and Sony apps. No video display device required.

Robert Zohn is an honest and ethical business man. He provides us with what I consider a lot of informative information. I wish I was as fortunate to be in a business which I had so much passion.

A force Dolby Vision feature would be nice. Reports seem to indicate this may improve HDR10 content, especially on OLEDs.

I have been told we'll see Google Assistant and Alexia Voice Control, likely by early fall.

Well said, and he should be well respected in the entire audio/video community. He gives us unique and super generous information, education, all that audio/video jazz.

There are more great people like Robert, he strives to put them together for our benefits.

In my weekly report I asked that question so stand by for the official reply. My guess is you will need the Echo Dot or Google Home mini as the UB820 and remote does not have a mic.

You would need one and/or the other. I was having reference to will Panny provide a skill for the Dot or Assistant for the Mini (not really up on the Google process). A lot of Smart devices require a Hub (Harmony, Wink, Smarthings, Insteon, Universal Devices, etc.) in order to be operated by Echo Dot or Google Home. I believe certain models of Echo and Home have hubs built in but I am not familiar with their capabilities.

Yes, I also asked when can we expect the Skill and or anything else needed to get the voice controls working on Google Assistant and Alexia.

It takes a few days for them to reply and I'll get back here with the answers.

I am just too old. Although I'm an AV buff, a degree in electronics engineering, and an adult life in software development, and hardware level interfacing, I read anything about Alexa, Google dots, Amazon, Siri, whatever and I couldn't give a hoot about any of it. Speaking to people is my limit. I don't need something to encourage me to be a more lazy. I don't need always on power wasting devices all over my house. I don't need a light bulb to continually consume energy so I don't have to flip a switch on and off when I need a light. I don't need to talk to my frigging tv. I don't need to talk to my uhd player. The only stuff I would ever want to say to it is to yell stuff it couldn't do. Like skip these gd FBI warnings wasting my time on this uhd I purchased. Aside from image size and picture, the best thing about having a home theatre projector is it is a pure display device, not bloated with a tonne of garbage like a tv tuner or applications or web browser, or even worthless speakers.

But it's the future, the future of civilisation, of progress, of evolution, of higher advancement, of simplifying life's existence. We talk to our computers, to our cars, we let our computers and cars drive us automatically. We talk to our TVs to switch from CNN to FOX, from Planet Earth to Pacific Rim: Uprising, to adjust the video parameters, the various HDMI inputs, ...

We talk to pleasant female voice assistants to ask them for a new music record from the world wide web music library, we talk to update our bank accounts, to have unique command tone as our password, we talk to our control systems everywhere @ home and on the road with our electric Tesla cars. We talked to our tablets, laptops, iPads, iPhones, androids to calibrate our sound systems, our video displays, our front projectors.

We talk to our cell phones to navigate the entire world, we talk to its internal microphone to order pizza, to switch to Netflix, to order a 4K Blu-ray from Amazon, from Best Buy, we talk to our illuminated universal remote controls to pause, rewind, stop and swith to Youtube, Vudu, Pandora, hires music audio files, we talk to the microphone to have our 4K Blu-players obeying to all and any command we wish for, to see live music concerts, to hear the latest Pink Floyd album, it's the way, the new way, the new wave, the new rage, it's what people want and should want. We cannot escape what's coming up to us, no way Jose.
