Has anyone used the external subtitle option (RattleByte mod) on the UB9000 with TV shows on BD? It works perfectly fine for movies with the sub.srt file in a folder sub but I also have a couple of foreign TV shows on BD without English subtitles & was wondering how this would work with loading external subs...

I assume you just replace the sub.srt file for each episode you want to watch unless there's a workaround?

Thats how externals subs for BD work - sub.srt in the sub folder. There is no workaround for the file names.

Wait, what? Is it possible to use external subs for physical discs???

EDIT: Read up a bit, tried - didn't work. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

As far as I’ve read from this forum, it’s just multi-region blu-ray disks that are impacted because 4K discs are all region-free. If that’s the case, then I might save the $400 since I will mostly watch 4K discs on this player.
Yes, the metal housing. Generally a small circuitboard is wired to different parts of the player's mainboard.

99.99% of 4K discs are region free, but a few are out of spec and have Blu-ray region coding added, most are US releases with a couple from Germany if I remember.

It only works on region free modded players - works fine on my 820. Rename any srt file as sub.srt and put it a folder called SUB on a USB stick. When you go to the subtitle options (the player menu not the disc menu) the external subs should be available. It may be depend on the encoding of the srt file itself whether it works or not.

My 9000 is modded, but I couldn't get it to work anyway.

this means that version 1.76 for 820 now it can do external subtitles no need of custom firmware?
Avsforums, won't link directly but you should easily be able to find the thread. You need a custom firmware to enable tease features, they've always been part of the player but were simply disabled by software.

External subtitles only work on BDs and 4Ks.

I pulled the batteries and left it sit for a few hours, put them back in and it works. Not sure what the problem was.

Now I'm going to suggest just hooking it up to the TV (Audio & Video) and not to your receiver ONLY to test and see if it still has issues that way. If not...AND IF your TV has a eARC connection to then send the audio to the receiver via the eARC connection and then test it out again.

I don't know what TV you have, but it probably has ARC or eARC.
Tried this as well. Player still froze up. It’s pissing me off now. Big time!

That's great news for the Halloween discs from Shout Factory being fixed, it's just a shame that it hasn't fixed Kino Lorber's Hard Target release, I believe Ghost in the Shell 1995 was fixed in the previous v1.69 firmware released back in September 2021.

I don't have the disc myself, I believe Kino's "Corrected Audio" disc from February 2022 only corrected the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track's "Channels Swapped" issue but unfortunately Kino didn't rectify the DTS-HD MA 2.0 track which still suffers from some weird "phasey" artifact like effect, the Dolby Vision flickering is purely a Panasonic UB820/UB9000 player problem but it was confirmed by another owner noted above that it is still affected.

OK. I think it's time to pour Java into your player. If that doesn't kill it, maybe try some Barq's, I think that has more of a kick.

So I bought my 820 in January and have had issues with the door not opening etc. Well now the tray won't close. Tried giving it a gentle push, and it will not budge. The device will power on and off, and the tray stays full ejected.

Anyone have any experience with this before?

I'm thinking of opening it up tonight and seeing if something is jammed. I really don't want to have to purchase a 425 dollar player again within 9 months.

Isn’t it under warranty? You should have taken it back and got another one. Since you didn’t send it in for repair.

I got it from Amazon, so the return period is far past, as the issues arose a couple months ago. As for warranty, I hear it's 90 days and after that you have to pay for shipping, repairs, and shipping. I have contacted them, but I also don't wanna be without my player for multiple weeks unfortunately.

check your manual for 8FIN command
