If your current setup has an HDMI input you could run the 820's audio output to that in theory, but you might have to disable the HDMI CEC options or disconnect the HDMI from current player. But like others have said, think about a new AVR or sound bar. |

Anyone notice new Dolby Vision issues on recent Kino titles, firmware updated to the last release from August. Seems to be similar to the older strobing issues.

The strobing is caused by the Dolby Vision HDR metadata being off and out of sync with the video track by about a frame one way or the other. It's sloppy mastering and a lack of QC. |

Got this today from Amazon UK
![]() Hope it plays better than the steelbook from Zavvi UK. Edit: played fine on Sony….but after I put the disc in, machine did nothing. Had to unplug it. Remembered old Sony was same at times. Still better than pixelation during film. Will try Panasonic after crawling behind the rack. Last edited by Travis; 12-19-2023 at 11:48 AM. |

Can anyone answer these questions? 1) My tv doesn't do Dolby Vision (it's an LG75UM7000PLA) so should I turn the Dolby Vision OFF on the 820 and leave it off? I realise it won't activate if it can't display it anyway but should it be left OFF? 2) For the HDR Optimiser how do I know what setting to use? I assume being just an LCD that my screen is probably quite crap luminance! I assume I should just use "middle or high luminance LCD" as the on screen note says? 2) I have a similar generation LCD 50UM7450PLA although it has a VA panel (I think yours is IPS). I find that setting it to Basic Luminace LCD works best and I also leave tone mapping enabled on the TV. They are not particularly bright displays but at the time it was the only one with a VA panel I could find without breaking the bank - I can't use IPS panels as I get severe eyestrain from them. Don't be afraid to play around with settings to see what works best for you - there is no one size fits all. Cinema Home on LG LCDs seems to work pretty well as a good starting point for HDR with the curtains closed - just turn off any noise reduction and trumotion settings. |

I keep knocking on wood but this player hasn't had a single glitch yet. Played recent stuff like eXistenZ, Point Break, Young Guns, Dragon Ball Super Hero, Street Fighter II, some Criterion stuff, some Kino stuff, no issues yet. Damn I don't miss that Sony!

I wonder if I got a bad player... I'm planning to get a replacement. Still have about a 75% good 25% bad experience with disc reads (new discs). Some DolbyVision discs not loading if DolbyVision is on... standard Blurays glitching all over the place (new, clean Blurays).
In all cases those discs play perfectly on my Sony X800M2. Either my player is bad or Panasonic needs to do better error handling. Will give the replacement a try, if that fails I'm back to Sony. It's too bad because the HDR performance of the 820 really is fantastic. |

Does anyone know if the region free trick works with 88 Films discs like Double Team, Knock Off or Street Fighter?

It requires linux (a virtual machine image is provided to run from within windows) and the ability to follow a few steps in a text document. Maybe it is beyond you but it will doubtless help others as it is free and easier to fit than the rattlebyte mod. Don't let your inability put everyone else off.
