Does anyone have contact info for someone at Netflix who we could send HDR/Dolby Vision problems to so they can hopefully be fixed? Roma for example STILL has random green tint flashes throughout the film. Kind of sad they treat one of their premier, Academy Award winning films like that.

Sounds like an HDMI handshake problem. Have you checked your cable? Or do you use in-TV app? I played that movie on my Panasonic GZ2000 and Sony X900F with no problem

The HDR glitches with Roma happen with the TV app and any other device, the master itself is flawed. It happens throughout the film but one timestamp I had noted last year was at 1 hour, 17 minutes and 45 seconds in you will clearly see the color shift.

Another issue I'm having is random shows/movies having these glitches.
https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/com..._black_bar_in/

This is only with the Apple TV though, it doesn't happen with the internal app. The Witcher has many of these random glitches. But it is show/movie specific so I imagine Netflix is using a different/flawed "file" or whatever for Apple TV compared to the internal app.

It just boggles my mind more people don't notice these kind of things because they're painfully obvious to me and have no idea who to contact to try and get them fixed.

Soooo I watched couple of scenes from Mandalorian in 4K HDR and I simply can't understand how can anyone accuse it for being fake HDR?!

Yeah, it doesn't get super bright, but it looks so different from SDR. Just beautiful. Can't wait for episode 8 to binge it!

Because they analysed it (with the emphasis on the anal) and it said so. Can't get much more definite than science, baby!! Forget about actually watching it and comparing it to the SDR with each using their respective intended transfer function, nah that's just what crazy people do.

Sometimes Geoff I think you are the John McClane of the HDR world. You are the one lone guy trying to tell idiots in various positions of authority what's the truth. But they won't believe you, because they are a timex watch in a digital age.

@netflix.com

I would recommend you can verify that assertion testing various imaging chain/playout devices before contacting him.

I thought McClane was the timex watch in a digital age? Anyhoo, I gots no problem with science as a whole, as explaining the fundamentals of HDR and how it works - or rather how it doesn't work re: tone mapping, calibration etc - are practically part of my daily routine on here. But that's always been the thing with science: it's not always objective in and of itself as the findings don't just appear out of thin air, they're still created by people and some of those people have very subjective ideas of their own about what something should or shouldn't be doing. Hence why Dolby didn't just arrive at using 10k nits (they wanted to go with 20k!) for the PQ EOTF, it was the result of prolonged study and testing of user responses rather than just saying "right, let's just make everyone squint a lot!". It's that user experience that the science in the Mando's case is dismissing completely.

I think it looks as beautiful as Solo (that movie actually have higher peak brightness) but with better contrast due to deeper blacks.

If Rogue One on UHD will look like those two, then shut up and take my money!

Said it before that it reminded me a hell of a lot of Solo's look, yeah. Rogue One used a film emulation LUT so may not be all about dat high brightness either, but with the 4K finish it's still going to look amazeballs.

I thought of sending my Best Christmas Merries in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's thread, but after some more arising thinking this thread is superior in overall traffic and in high dynamic range moving pictures ...

Merry Christmaz!

Merry Christmaz!

[Show spoiler]
Some people might appreciate the injection of some high dynamic heterosexuality in that thread

I suppose I'll bring some balance to the force.

Looking forward to Rogue One, definitely my favorite of the new Star Wars films. But if I remember right they use a slightly higher black floor, which hurts the contrast overall some (a disturbing trend in Hollywood at the moment).

The quest for thin blacks is very much an ongoing trend, yeah. Is it a genuine stylistic trend or are filmmakers doing it just because the black level on most theatrical digital projection is so shit? I can't remember what movie it was for but I read a comment from a DP that said the latter, that black is so poor anyway in cinemas that they might as well lift the blacks in the grade because at least then they know that it's going to look as it should.
