The game moves kinda slow.. The scrolling isn't as smooth as the other socoms and running seems very sluggish. The guns seem pretty balanced and the map of crossroads seems well done.. But the just the fact of the game moving kinda sluggish and slow is kinda got me worried about the final release.

Guys, remember this is just the beta. For an old school socom player, I love what Crossroads looks like in HD. The detail is great. The game to me has a typical socom feel to it. I for one see many late night clan wars in my future. That is just me and I am a socom junkie.

My son has never played this series and he spent a good 5-6 hours engrossed in it. One crash, one really long connect which just so happened to be the crash session. It's a beta. Other than the intermittent lag he had a blast when he got into the game. Audio was crystal clear.

Well... I better use my one post wisely then... Let me state this first: I love tactical shooters. I love 3rd person. Coop anything rules. Anyone familiar with my post history should know that Socom:Confrontation 'should' be right up my alley (huge GRAW fan even). I went into this beta with very high hopes, of course, but also with reality in check (it was going to be a downloadable title at some point afterall, right?). That said... Socom:Confrontation fails miserably. I've tried to chalk a lot of it up to 'beta' and all that; however, reading through the beta forums on the Socom site has made it very clear to me that the only 'beta' part is the connectivity and server related issues. The graphics are what they will be. The gameplay is what it will be. The physics, movement, aiming system (if you want to call it that) and everything else is pretty much what it will be. To say I was underwhelmed would be a severe understatement. I felt like I was playing a very old PS2 title or something. Everything was just not right. Nothing felt as it should. Even though I was in relatively lag free games at times the controls were still excessively sluggish... Big time. The 'custom' controller setting feature was exciting until I found out that the limitations they put on it make it a non-feature basically and it's better to stick to the presets and just re-learn buttons as they are different in many ways to more 'standard' shooter controls (don't even get me started on the piss poor 'zoom in/zoom out' system of aiming using the dpad... what idiot thought of this should be banned from game development forever). The graphics seemed to lack almost all texture. While I understand a 'middle eastern/desert' map would be pretty tan and bland'ish overall, it was exceptionally 'flat' feeling. The characters look kinda like plastic action figures but softer... In this case, I would have actually preferred plastic shine, to be honest. At least then it could be construed as 'art style'. The environment was VERY sticky. By that I mean it was very common to get stuck on a pebble or some other environmental obstacle and have to wiggle like crazy to get around it (not too uncommon in some betas; however, not usually in a 'public' beta). Getting the option to hit X to climb over things at some walls and such was often an exercise in futility. It should just 'happen'. I'm all for slower game play (see my critiques of COD4 if you don't believe me); however, this is beyond slow. Spending 5+ minutes on such a small map just trying to find an opposition member seems VERY excessive. Realistic? Moreso than anything else I'm sure; however, reality does not make good gaming usually. The weapons did seem balanced in the sense that no matter what you chose they all seemed to perform about the same. Personally, I don't see that as a good thing. Different weapons have different purposes and when they all work the same it kinda makes the whole thing mute. Just put in one rifle and call it done in that case. They are all _extremely_ inaccurate. Hitting an opponent is purely luck. I don't care how much some claims skill, it is 100% luck in this game. I watched as _four_ of us danced in a circle for over 30 seconds only 10 feet apart using fully automatic rifles and none of us could hit each other. I'm sorry, but there is no reason to make things that ridiculous. Using an HK and ACOG scope I would zoom in on an opponents head, perfectly centered, while he is standing still (as am I) only about 10-15 yards apart only to miss completely. Apparently, my toon missed basic training or something. Yet, moments later I aimed at an enemies foot for sh*ts&giggles in the same fashion only to see the message 'CaptBurn fragged ForgotName with a HEADSHOT'. What the hell?! And, how is that 'fragged'? Did these developers never play a shooter before? I didn't use a grenade. Which leads too... The content tries too hard to be 'hip' instead of focusing on actually being good. Even the taunts are often misused trendy sayings often used by nubs in PC based FPS games. I'm not sure what demo this game is aimed at anymore; however, it seemed like it missed the target on all of them. Anyway, I'll stop now (though I could totally go on... oh yes, I could. There is a TON of other stuff broken or just plain wrong in this game). I'll just leave it to others to make their one post about their bad experience with it. I'm sure diehard fans of Socom will step up to try and defend it because they want so badly for a new _good_ Socom to happen that they will do anything to push it. I understand. Socom has been a great IP in the past, but this is FAR from the title it deserves on PS3. I suggest letting this one go. Why? Because it will send a stronger message to Sony that it needs to pay attention to this IP and give it the treatment it deserves and deliver the Socom experience diehard fans _really_ want on a now-gen platform. |

-Load times to customize weapons while not in a match (ironically it's pretty fast when in a match) -Freezing and lagging -Choosing weapons is kind of awkward, you have to really make sure the weapon is selected before letting go of the "O" button -Cannot really see the whole leader board/almost impossible to scroll down and browse players/no number of total players -"O" does not cancel anything in the menu like in other games -On the menu, if you press up all the way to the top it won't rotate back down to the bottom As you can see mainly Beta problems and small issues, on the plus side +Feels like SOCOM +You have some weigh to you, i.e. if you carry an RPG, you will be slower, unlike CoD4 where you ran just the same +Peaking on the corners with the sixaxis feels natural and is actually helpful +Communication is great and clear, a lot more communicating and strategies than Warhawk (which is great BTW and recommended) +Day and Night environments +Great customization as expected +Very good graphics If they fix the small issues and the beta issues I mentioned this is a day 1 buy for sure |

No the graphics were very good, not CoD4 level or anything, but they were good and before you ask I have a 1080p Philips TV hooked up through HDMI. I would say they looked better than the GRAW 2 demo I played.

This is a BETA or DEMO how ever you want to look at it. The actuall game will have the kinks worked out. I was part of the Warhawk beta and it was atleast 100X worse lag then this. People would actually disapear while playing then show up somewhere else. If you play Warhawk now I have NEVER seen any lag and I play it quite a bit. It doesnt matter what people say about the game but anyone who played the Socom franchise will still buy the game and it will still be the best online shooter there is. The Socom community is very loyal to the game and will make it work.

On another note, I feel that many of you are forgetting this Socom is just to hold you over til Socom IV. Not just the fact that it is multiplayer only. This game is not meant to be the next generation of the socom series even if it is the first on this generation of systems. This game was not developed to be the COD4 killer so stop comparing Socom to it. |

![]() That is just me though. We all don't have to share your opinion. I think the beta shows a lot of promise and like I said I see many clan wars in my future. |

I finally got around to playing for a couple of hours, and I think its growing on me. The guys I was with were awesome, we always dominated, but they talked and played as a team unlike other games. I can't wait for the Blu-clan to pick this up and we all play together. I think I'm getting this day 1 now. Even though the graphics are not the greatest, the gameplay and fun factor is definately there.

Public Beta Manual SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta Update Thank you all for participating in the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Public Beta. We know that it has not gone as smoothly as we would all like, but I want to assure you that we are working on the issues. Please remember, the main purpose of the Public Beta was to identify just these types of issues before the game is launched. We are working on and testing another patch right now. For this patch, the focus is to resolve the following issues:
