I'm getting upset with the lack of reviews. I really want to see if the beta stuff was fixed before I drop down some cash on it. Argh! I know they have to test the serves and stuff, but, come on!

there will be no reviews cause the game was shipped like 1 day before it hit shelves. it is also online only, the game just now went up, they can't review it until they play for awhile..

the beta is nothing like the released game.. here is my inital review I wrote for my clans website.

Positives

-Gameplay - it is there.. the running and gunning and hits are dead on.
-Maps - I like em.. even the old ones are done right.. play fairly well.
-Graphics - Better than I thought they would be
-NUTZ - just plain fun playing with you all.
-MICS - the new mic works well, clear.
-proxmitiy chat - excellent feature love it.


Negatives
-boots and freezes - still happens.. only negative on gameplay - fix this and I will put in many hours.
-Missing advertised features - again where is the stat tracking website, calendar for wars, in game tournaments, in game party system, PSN trophies? None of these are in the game at launch, and all where advertised even on the box to be in there. (hell even home integration is advertised on the box, but I could care less about that) -- I suspect they will update and launch the website with all stats and calendars sometime this week.. but I still want my in game tournaments and PSN trophies.. and those cannot come without a patch.. which is sad for a game that is already released.

-missing previous features - ability to join game from in game clan and friends list.


All in all I would give my initial ranking as an 8/10.. this game is much better than the beta, and kinda surprised me with decent graphics.. but I am still annoyed at missing features and freezes/boots.

This is in addition to the mic chat which is only with teammates and one at a time, like every other socom.

The proximity chat works great for buddying up with players on your team and talking without taking up team mic time, or have to press mic button.. and it works great for listening for close enemies... a great feature.


oh and yeah I love the new mic works great.

There are alot of advertised features not enabled yet though, so there is hope for PSN trophies.. tournaments, the website calendar stat tracking, youtube upload, party system, home, and trophies are all advertised features that are not existing right now..

How is the background noise? can you hear people talking?

i couldn't really test it last night.. but what i did do, was played music in the background, and then tried to speak to myself ( voice changer). And i couldn't hear the music, but i could hear my voice, i had to really really really listen to hear the music..and push on the mic into my ear..

I need some help with the installing of SOCOM.

I installed the Data pack -- then started the game and it made me download patch 1.10... after this I restarted the game again and every time now it stated that the data pack is corrupt and I cannot save my character data and asks me to removed the data pack through the XMB... I've removed it twice now both times receiving data pack corrupt when i do all the install steps... Is my game faulty or am I doing something wrong?

Were you in the beta ? People have said they had problems, you have to completely remove the beta including the save game part too.

you got to just hit cancel when it says corrupt data, and move on.. your data is not really corrupt and you will be able to login and play. You will never see this message again as well.. so just cancel and keep playing.. sorry for wasted time deleted and re-installing.

So i just got Socom and i'm trying to "pair" it with the PS3. It's taking over 5 mins already... Wondering if i'm doing something wrong. It's in the cradle and it's plugged into the USB.

there is a manual or pdf that shows you how.

First thing though, you have to delete any existing bluetooth headset, as you can only have one headset paired a time.

Than make sure you got 2.5, and plug it in via USB.. should not take that long to auto pair it..

Ya thanks. Didn't realize there was an actual USB plug on the blutooth headset, kind of tricky to see it / open it but I got it now. In the audio settings do you have the blutooth set as both input and output device?

What the hell is going on, now it's taking over 5 mins just to get the install to start. It still says please wait. No loading bar to show how much % is left? This experience is becoming longer than it needs to be just to play a freaking game.

Well finally, after about 8 mins the loading bar appeared, still waiting for it to finish installing.

It's the headset.

If you hold down the power button it will blink like it's on with the twilight zone tones and all, but it's not ready to pair yet. You have to hold down the button an additional few seconds and wait for a more monotonous tone... After you hear that tone you will see the PS3 recognize it instantly.

Took me a bit to dial that one in also. Wish they just said that on the white slip they put in the box.

Thanks I got it to work as well. I just didn't realize there was a USB port on the headset. hard to see. Anyways, everything installed and I'm finally about to play my first Socom ever!!

*edit* way to jinx it . haha. Now i have to download the 400 mb update !!! oh man
