SOCOM: Confrontation – 1.60 Patch December 10th

I played Socom for about 2 hours again late last night without a problem. What a wonderful game.

I suck, but it's still fun.

What really sucks is when you're playing on a ranked server (elimination) and you die quick. I feel like such a loser.

And I hate when I'm the last guy standing and the other team has 3-4, because I know I'm done and everyone is watching.

Might be newbish, but I figured out that if I equip the RPG I can usually knock someone out if I'm having trouble.

Anyone have aiming tips? Should you aim for the head instead of the body when close to the enemy?

So many times I had the jump on someone and failed. Grrrrr

yea i figure that out so i've been going into ranked games but still no stats, like in the buttom right while on the main menu where it says games played, kills, death to kill ration etc.. it displays all 0's

Keeps erroring out every time I try to load the mandatory patch 473MB.. Stays at 0% then error code 80710723.. Tried like 8 times nows.. I guess I'll try again tonight. I have no problems accessing the PSN store, playing online for other games.

Yes, it is. No problems what so ever finding games, no lag.. seems to be A-OK right now on saturday at 9:30pm.

I've never played Socom before....I've been hearing mixed things. How does it compare with COD4? What's the deal with the headset? I hear it's state of the art...is it mandatory for the game? Or can I use one of my many blutooths I've got laying around. The game is $40 without the headset...why is that? lol You'd figure it would be around $80 with the headset. Is Sony trying to attract more buyers?

I get that problem all the time when downloading patches. All I do is run a wired connection directly form my modem to ps3,and NOT my router.

Socom has a more serious feel to it than COD4.COD is more a run and gun,lone wolf game.Socom is more teamwork so a headset is nice.The one that comes with the game is cool and yes they are trying to attract more people and you can use any headset that works on the ps 3.

Many players right now appear to be trying to play Socom like CoD and it's making for really bad teams.

I'm new to Socom, but I've already seen that teamwork (and talking) are vital to the game.

I think CoD is more arcade-ish.

You can use any mic, but the official Sony one is the only one that uses HQ mode. I actually bought the $60 version because of this even though I had two headsets (one of which is pretty good).

If you decide to play, I recommend joining a "respawn medley" room, which is unranked. It's a great way to get used to the game and enjoy all the game types and maps without too much pressure.

I stopped playing in the ranked rooms, because I was getting on teams with idiots. And most of the people talking trash are the ones who know nothing about teamwork.

And of course, joining a good-sized clan is a good thing (private rooms, more fun, etc).

I just joined a mature clan with rules I enjoy, so I'm hoping my fun level in Socom goes up. This is a great game IMHO.

But I'm not a fan of CoD at all, so take that for what it's worth (have played Warhawk for 400+ hours though).

I popped it in yesterday and downloaded with no problems. Played 2 games got 1 kill and died twice, then shut it off.

I bought the SOCOM + headset bundle. The headset is a keeper, bet so far the game has not performed. Too many issues. Played other online games this weekend and hooked up OK. So for me at least, I got the game for $10. So far it seems it's not even worth that.

If you want the headset it might pay to wait until October 21 for the stand alone release.

There are still some network issues it appears, but those will be worked out. All I can say is I was with a team for 2 hours today and communication and teamwork was amazing. Everyone I was playing with was enjoying SOCOM more than COD because of the realism. Just give it chance to iron out some kinks and practice in respawn rooms, and if lag is bad then play on dedicated servers instead of hosted servers.

I joined a clan with many players in it (mature clan). I played for about 5 hours today with only 1 disconnect incident.

It was a blast.

So far suppression is my least favorite (still fun though). I really like breach the base and extraction.

Still learning the game and maps, but at least I'm with a fun clan that's willing to help.

IMO, SOCOM is an outstanding game that is lacking the feel of an outstanding game. I was in the beta & I had been playing the full version of the game since its release on the 14th. Although I have had a good time in-game, I have found myself feeling unimpressed by the game's overall apperance. So, I took my copy back to GameStop on Sunday evening & received a $27 in store credit. I kept the headset though, it works amazingly! Especially for the R2 beta! I believe that I will be playing the on-line CO-OP mode of R2 for months to come!

well...I got SOCOM on friday....I still haven't had the chance to play it...I have tried downloading that 470mb update about 3 times and every time, my connection gets messed up...last time it made it to 77%....I was pissed..I will try again tonight..

My how my once favorite franchise has fallen. It is a sad statement that the above quote is about the best I can come up with for this game. If it wasn't for the standalone headset costing $50 I would be returning this game for a full refund.

I bought the game and have been thoroughly disappointed. I can't even give an honest opinion on the game play. I've had it since release and have had about 1 1/2 (probably an optimistic estimate) of good server connectivity without errors. BUT, my stats have not yet been kept accurately. Friday night has been the only time I've had a good run of it. . . I thought great, they've figured out their problems. . .Well, maybe on the server side, but now I am getting a game freeze once about every twenty minutes.
