This won't affect anything to current HDM format war.

An exec of Toshiba's TV company said in an interview that its business is in red. Toshiba used to have a big share and was in top 3 in the Japanese TV market back in 90s, now Toshiba has been failing in HDTV market, they are just in the position of "others" (Sharp, Sony and Panasonic are basically dominating Japanese TV market), because of lack of the key component of their own (Toshiba was a CRT tube manufacturer).

They once planed to strike back with SED cooperating with Canon, but this plan failed. Next, they announced OEL for their future TV and recently they also abandoned OEL due to its technical difficulties and now they bet Sharp's LCD for their future. This is one of the few means they had to stay in the game and nothing related with HDM war.

I would like to ask our insiders exactly when Ken Graffio was appointed caretaker of the WB and Sony sales numbers?

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6515097.html

This has to be a new hight in the usual suspects attempts to attain new heights of asininity.

Plus, what kind of half assed reporting is this. Where is the due dilligence in checking with the actual entities that own the non Uni titles discussed? What are Graffio's chances of gainful employment in the industry after HD DVD fails with these kinds of antics?

Chris

Edit: Also, Merry Christmas to all! Have a great holiday insiders.

Or just Happy Holidays to all our insiders.

You've made 2007 a year to remember -- here's to 2008 bringing an end to the format war, and making us all veterans with many a battle-weary story to tell.

Indeed! Thank you, Insiders! I look forward to reading more cryptic good news and crazy links to AVS HD-DUD propaganda in '08!

- Dave

p.s. I'm not being sarcastic about the cryptic good news. Difficult to interpret news is better than no news at all and I for one appreciate it!

I am not sure I would read too much into this. Not too long back Sony sold their plants that manufacture Cell processors for the PS3 to Toshiba. And the processor is co-developed between IBM, Sony and Toshiba. So even as rivals, Japanese companies often seem to have many connections as well.

Perhaps an insider here can answer, does Toshiba collect a royality for the cell processor in the PS3?

O.K. guys……..sheesh, enough of this.
Let me give you something else to chew on over the Holiday season which includes Dec. 25 (Christmas), Dec. 26 (beginning of Kwanzaa), etc., etc.

If things go according to planned, there may be some other interesting news (other than WB exclusivity) at the upcoming CES, which often times in the past has been a letdown.

Don’t ask for any hints and nobody bother PMing me about it.

Regarding the PlayStation insider, the person knows everyone is eagerly looking forward to that division's debut here, it’s just that he is swamped with CES stuff, like everyone else is.
