Sorry, I can't steal another company's thunder, except to say that there will be at least one Chinese BD player at the show.

There is also a UK company which releases products under 3 or 4 different brands releasing a BD player in 08.

Actually just came across this article where is looks like it is not confirmed.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=29365, that comment from Ron Sanders from Warner make it even more interesting.

And a similar comment from Steve Einhorn, New Line.

I haven't been around here for awhile due to other demands on my time. It's amazing how much productivity moving to a new house can suck up, not to mention the (ultimately joyful) task of selecting and assembling a "proper" home theater and (probably the most difficult task) ensuring Wifey can operate it sufficiently well to not get frustrated and ban me from enhancing it further! At any rate I'll try to stop in more regularly here; if there are any really egregious posts at HDD point them out and I'll go do what I can...

Well MS's former HD-DVD AVS guy is having a great time over there taking shots at BDs ability to produce BD50s as is David Vaughen so called neutral collector yet the same guys have no problems believing millions of HD-51gig discs could be produced tomorrow. And to make things worse most of the guys over there believe them

The secret to Wifey's home theater happiness is a well programmed remote! Try a Logitech Harmony if you haven't yet, or better still, get someone to program a URC or RTI remote for your rig, it will be worth EVERY PENNY!

There's no "upconvert" for the sound though and that is a HUGE part of the movie watching experience. The high bit-rate video and lossless audio together are what make Blu-ray such an unbeatable combination.

Either one alone is only half the experience. Thank goodness we don't have to compromise and can have both.

I don't want to take away time from insiders, but on my 52XBR4 i can spot the difference between upconvert and HDM everytime. I had my mother over the other night who is defintily not a "true videophile" and she clearly noticed a huge difference with HDM on my TV. No matter how well done a sd transfer is it will never compare to the HDM version. Maybe on a 720p 32' vizio it would be difficult to see a major improvement between good sd and not so good HDM, but on a top of the line screen over 50 inches there is just never any debate, there is a huge difference.

Insiders surely these statements are very significant of both studios leaning to one format. They must have decided or are very close at this stage.

agreed. if you can't spot a difference then something is wrong.

+1. This is the first time I've heard New Line explicitly speak out about it. Warner we've heard multiple times how a dual format approach is beginning to hurt the industry. You'd think they would push for this resolution sooner rather than later. The question is how soon would they? I can't see them waiting until spring / summer 08 if they know it's doing more harm than good. How close are we in putting the pieces together?
