A question:

Is anyone aware of any response from the remaining HD DVD supporting studios to recent developments?

I'm refering to Universal, Paramount/Dreamworks and Weinstein.

I haven't seen any comments from these three. Have you?

A question to Warner insider/Max:

For those of us who have experienced Amir on the other site before, he said that MS did a lot of the VC-1 encoding work free of charge. The story had credence when the MS department were given days off during Christmas which led to no titles being released on HD DVD for a while in February this year (or something).

Now that Warner has gone Blu, who is encoding Warner's films? Sony DADC? PHL?

Another question is, will Warner revisit titles that are already released on BD that uses the same video/audio encode as HD DVD? Titles like Planet Earth and Harry Potter.

Also, will Warner revisit titles that were released with IME on HD-DVD, like 300?

Once again, thanks to all the insiders like Talk, Penton, paidgeek, Rich and Max. We need Warner, Disney and Fox insiders now!

Allow me... Proper insiders, please correct me should I be way off here.

1) Has been and will be GDMX, their own authoring house.
2) Not likely, since they are going to be super-busy with the new titles and the delayed Blu-rays like Casablanca, BB, Matrix, V, etc. They also most likely feel there is nothing wrong with PE or HP, and I would agree.
3) You can bet on it, the question is when.

Planet Earth is up to the BBC, not WB. Harry Potter I seriously doubt they will revisit for a very long time, there's really nothing wrong with the existing versions for the most part.

300 will certainly be revistited when Watchmen comes out to add the PiP stuff

hopefully alexander gets redone. having 2 discs to watch 1 movie is an embarrassment. the potter's did look like crap compared to catalog titles like cast away and mr&mrs smith. I just hope they use blu's potential. a high bitrate VC-1 encode like New Line just used or AVC. but please warner, use 50gb discs.

On HP, just my own thought, but I don't figure they will get redone until WB is ready to release the 14 or so disc Ultimate Box Set after the series is complete.

Nothing really wrong with the current releases. Even if optimized bideo encodes would get some improvements, the question will be will it be enough to sell a double dip. I think the only titles likely to get the new SE type treatment are those where the video and/or audio would see a signifigant jump, titles with DCs or extended editions, or titles that can be marketed with extra 1.1 features that can be tied in or marketed with the release of a sequel or similar film.

Since the HPs turned out so well video wise and have lossless audio, I can't see them making the effort for a redo until all 7 films are out and they have a real excuse to redo.

Just my personal opinion though, even as someone who pathetically double dips like a madman whenever the dip gives me something extra I want.

Chris

Actually, even if they move it to one disc -- which they should! -- they should keep the intermission, in accordance with the director's wishes.

But the one reason I haven't bought Alexander on Blu-ray yet is the lack of lossless audio. Hopefully all their lossy titles get repressed with lossless, even if they don't change the video encode itself.

I'd be very grateful for this info -- I know it's early yet, but it's the kind of thing a staff member of this forum ought to ask of the Warner reps at CES.

TIA.

talk you mentioned earlier that there would be at least 1 Chinese BD player debuting at CES. Is this still the case?

To the insiders, are there deals to be announced that were dependent on Warner switching?

Not just studios, but retailers etc.

to insiders, I work retail and want to let you know the wb news has hit and have had customers asking questions about blu ray, so great job on all the work. I also noticed that our company placed HUGE orders for all the distribution centers of the sony bdp-s300.

1.How long will the sony bdp-300 be a current player?

2. Why have we not heard of Universal or Paramount reaffirming their committment to HD DVD much like fox and disney did after p-day?

Why wouldn't it? Blu-ray is moving ahead as planned and CES will highlight only Bu-ray now.

I never suggested it wasn't going to happen. Just fishing for early info

I think you bolded the wrong part. I would have bolded the sentence before that where he says "now Walmart can push Blu-ray."

Insiders....

It may have been asked (but this thread is a little cluttered right now), but will upcoming Warner releases be made to Blu-rays specs or will they continue making them to the lowest common denominator until may?

Also, someone mentioned Lethal Weapon will be redone.... any others?

Someone mentioned Batman Begins will be redone and be release like 1 week before the Dark Knight comes out ...I think it was Max.
