I obtained the files well over a year ago. The site might not being maintained by the creator. Just this month Jan took a position at Arri… https://de.linkedin.com/in/froehlichjan

As an aside, Arri had about 15 min. of very nice looking HDR content they were showing on a 65” LG tv at their booth at IBC, somebody should post it on their YouTube Arrichannel at least just to show they were demoing HDR....and well.

Is the $6,000 Sony TV Really a Tech Breakthrough?

The pricey new flagship 4K UHD TV revamps backlight technology for brighter images and better blacks

After completing our full testing of the 65-inch Sony XBR-65Z9D, we can say that it's among the best TVs we've ever tested.

...The 65Z9D's high-definition picture quality, UHD performance, and color accuracy were all excellent.

....We contacted Sony about this issue, and were told that the company will be issuing a firmware update in about 60 days that will enable the TV to auto-detect HDR content and put the TV into the proper mode. That update can't come soon enough.

Sony XBR-65Z9D Review: TV Of The Year

In a year that’s seen high dynamic range technology (explained here) give even the very finest TVs a headache, I’ve had huge hopes for Sony’s 65Z9D from the moment I first heard about it. And to say it hasn’t let me down would be an understatement.

The killer app of the 65Z9D is that it marries up Sony’s exemplary color and clarity technologies with a new high-end backlight system that’s apparently been tailor made to deliver maximum HDR impact while minimizing LCD TV’s typical light clouding/inconsistency problems.

How does it do this? First, it puts more than 600 LEDs directly behind its screen rather than around its edges. Second, it provides enough electrical and processing control to enable every single one of these LEDs to produce its own light level independent of its neighbors.

Finally, new ‘calibrated beam’ technology focuses the LEDs more narrowly on the brightest parts of the picture, to give them more punch and expand the sense of contrast.

Sony ZD9 4K TV review: The HDR master

...It's a long way from affordable, but if LG's ultra-slim OLED options aren't on your radar and you want the ultra bright peaks that high dynamic range content can offer then, hands down, the ZD9 is the HDR master.

Follow up to the public service announcement (PSA) on September 1…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post12619657

and an excuse to bump this thread up again from the deep bowels of the table. Lisa is now officially listed on the U.W. staff….http://ophthalmology.washington.edu/...-de-koo-md-mba

P.S.
In regards to flagship TVs for those fortunate enough to have great eyesight, why quibble or stress when one is financially successful? A Z9D in one room and an LG oled in another sounds good to me.

Sony KD-65ZD9BU review

Verdict

Just when I’d thought Samsung and LG were going to own TV in 2016, Sony’s KD-65ZD9BU waltzes in to deliver a devastating blow with the most exciting and cutting-edge picture quality I’ve seen to date.

I get it. It's brighter. However, with most TV viewing occurring in the evening and with OLED's advantages in terms of viewing angles and contrast, is this Sony really worth paying $2k more for?

My thoughts exactly....I'm by no means knocking Sony as I've had my XBR6 for 10 years and it's still running like a champ....as someone that watches mostly at night, I'm sure I won't benefit from a super bright panel....was actually torn between this panel and an OLED

Well, luckily it has deep black levels too. Best of both worlds.

For me it was a no brainer to go with the Z9D because I would have to pay $11k more for an equivalent sized OLED.

Additionally it easily has the absolute best upscaling I have ever seen on any TV, regardless of source.

Bumping this up from the bottom of the section...

I would like to hear how this set compares to OLED's and the Sammy's for TV viewing during day or night conditions. How is the 1080i conversion up to 4K?

Also excited as this set is supposed to be HLG compatible ( don't know if it would be firmware upgrade or a box/attachment )?

Also, for daytime 4K HDR viewing due the higher light levels in a room, would this set outperform the OLED's ?

This is my leading contender for a purchase. Waiting for CES 2017 to see if there are other improvements or refinements in new sets that would warrant waiting for a 2017 model, Sony or otherwise.

I have heard about the Sony OLED's coming mid-2017, the OLED top nits output I guess is the big question on these Sony's, will it be significantly brighter than the LG's ~500 nits.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three flagship models. I chose the Sony Z9D after looking at all three for a while. They each have their own pros and cons. Be aware there's a lot of fan-boy ism with TV's, so any con you hear about a competitor is probably not as bad as made out to be.

The Z9D can go really deep and has near perfect black level. It's easy to claim "nothing can touch OLED in dark room" but while that may be true in a vacuum, it's not that simple in a practical sense. The Sony looks amazing in a dim room and can produce an inky black screen with nice contrast if there's also brightness on screen with no noticeable blooming.

Scaling conversion is mixed, but only because it varies by source content. Blu-rays obviously upscale nicely and look as good as ever.

Cable, it depends on channels. Sports programming isn't as good (pixelated/noisy) but decent. HD channels like TNT etc look solid. Streaming apps like Netflix (standard 1080) and HBO looked good. No complaints.

Daytime viewing (and HDR in the dark) absolutely favors Sony and Samsung.

Consumer Reports' TV Lab Deep Dive: Best Flagship TVs of 2016

We pit the LG G6 against the Samsung KS9800 and Sony Z9D to find the best TV of 2016

http://www.consumerreports.org/tvs/c...p-tvs-of-2016/

I don't agree with the findings since on my Sony 850C it is relatively easy to put it into the enhanced mode for HDR and it only needs to be done once. I assume the Z9D has a similar interface. Also I don't believe the sound quality should be included in the ratings since with these high end TVs they will be used with a high quality sound system.

Dolby Vision coming to the Z via a firmware update!

Certainly makes me feel more comfortable with my purchase, just in case DV really blows up.
