believe me (actually my wife ), thee above ^ is cutting edge info, and as so, many healthcare providers are yet unaware as to the specifics of qualification, access, etc. If you do get the virus, best be one of the first in line due to the shortage in supply of bamlanivimab (bam-bam).

I know it’s probably irresponsible...but I just checked into the hotel I always stay at when I’m in Edmonton, and for the first time since all this shit happened (9 months) the lounge is open.

So I said screw it and am having a drink just for the novelty. Waitress is masked, only 2 other people here - everything spread out etc.

I just want a return of normalcy...

Thanksgiving in Canada (October 12) was the beginning of our second wave.
Strap yourself the ride is for all winter long ...
Today we hit 100 mortalities in Canada.

Too many articles to post, people would think I'm like a news world reporter.

I follow the realistic projections based on scientific analyses, and I sure follow the development about those vaccines.
Personally I prefer solid established sound measures, like they do in Taiwan, Thailand, New Zealand, and few more countries.

* Where I live on an island, the cases come from people travelling from the mainland...by ferries, planes. The ferries won't stop because they are essential...truck drivers with food.
It's the non-essential travellers who spread the virus and bring it here in my backyard.
Canada is no Taiwan.

Today was another record with 11,000 mortalities worldwide.
The US close to 2,000

There's a loophole for Canadian travellers who want to go to Florida to spend the winter in their vacation homes. And it's all legal.

Ars Technica - Caribbean cruise COVID outbreak expands; Cruise line cancels voyages

Cruises are never going to be the same, aren't they?

This luxury cruise just had passenger and crew member take a RT-PCR test before going on the ship, everybody tested negative. But since the onboard testing couldn't detect pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic, covid found its way.

They cancelled the cruise and returned to Barbados, which said they could just fly back to their home country because they previously had a negative test result...

What good do local governments think a "stay-at-home advisory" is going to do?

"We're advising no one to leave their houses unless it's for food or medicine."

No one is going to listen to that. As long as stores are open, people will go. ESPECIALLY one month before Christmas.

Are people that hard up for companionship that they just can't stay in their warm, comfy homes while this virus is still a threat? Don't they realize that the longer they choose to go to bars without masks, the longer we have to ask them to do so? I just don't get it.

Something else I don't understand are municipal campaigns to get people to mask up by telling them they're going to be fined if they don't. I never see anybody handing out tickets to the morons who don't have a mask.

Yeah, these soft lockdowns are useless because some people won’t listen. Either do a hard shut down or nothing at all.

If the vaccines pass FDA approval, my feeling on this is the same as with states stepping up to require that parents vaccinate their children against various diseases, including polio and measles, as a prerequisite to enrolling them in public schools, which is a good thing, because the presence of too many unvaccinated children presents a clear public health risk as will COVID-19 unvaccinated adults. The safety of COVID-19 vaccination for children is yet to be determined.

But what's the point of a hard lockdown (or even a soft lockdown) if we don't shut off international airline transit?

And shut it off for a very long time. New Zealand had to shut it off twice. The UK is the best example of a large'ish country shutting off international air transit, they had set a date for tourists and citizens/ex-pats that said if you're not back in the country by xx/xx/xxx that the UK won't let you back in.

And that worked for the UK for like 2 months, now they're worse than where they started, if counting by just the number of cases.

That’s a very fair point. Unfortunately it has turned into a free for all with so many states going in different directions. We really need some uniform guidelines at a national level. (Which isn’t going to happen for some time yet)

My post was just my thoughts on how a soft shutdown feels pretty useless from what I have witnessed in the area I live.
