The more I look at it the more it looks like a catch, possession, then he fumbled it but recovered it, IMHO

It looks like a catch. The guy took 3 steps. The ground can't cause a fumble, so it's not a fumble.

I understand how the rule is written, so I understand why it was ruled incomplete. But just looking at the play it looks like a catch.

Regarding sports websites like ESPN that require a Facebook account to post in the comment section, is anyone surprised by how vile, hateful, self-important and idiotic people still are using their real names and personal information?

I also find it funny how arrogant and obnoxious fans of Team A get when calling out fans of Team B for being arrogant and obnoxious.

Nobody cares anymore R3P0. Detroit got the shaft last week & Dallas got it this week. Detroit wouldn't have beaten Green Bay either. Move on.

He should have never tried to score. Had he gone down instead of trying for the TD the outcome of the game may have been different but we'll never know so whats done is done. This falls on Dez and Dez alone. Romo played great, Murry played great so I expect them to be in the playoffs again next year.

If the ground causes the ball to move, you did not have possession when the ball hit the ground. Why is this so difficult to understand?

That should be a TD. What's confusing me is if you go to the NFL site and read the NFL case book, this is listed in there:

A.R. 8.12 GOING TO THE GROUND – COMPLETE PASS
First and 10-on B25. A1 throws a pass to A2 who controls the ball and gets one foot down before he is contacted by B1. He goes to the ground as a result of the contact, gets his second foot down, and with the ball in his right arm, he braces himself at the three-yard line with his left hand and simultaneously lunges forward toward the goal line. When he lands in the end zone, the ball comes out.
Ruling: Touchdown Team A. Kickoff A35. The pass is complete. When the receiver hits the ground in the end zone, it is the result of lunging forward after bracing himself at the three-yard line and is not part of the process of the catch. Since the ball crossed the goal line, it is a touchdown. If the ball is short of the goal line, it is a catch, and A2 is down by contact.

Totally different cases. In the case today and the image above, the catch has not been completed when he hits the ground. In the case from the website, the catch is complete and then followed by contact and a lunge.

Neither of the images you show actually show how the ball bounces into the air and Dez has to re-catch the ball. If that ball bounces off of his own body or the defenders body and he catches it and maintains control, then he's good. But no, the ball hits the ground, with so much force that it pops into the air that he has to catch it again. For crying out loud, it hit the ground, he didn't maintain control. Simple.

I'm not a huge fan of the rule. Especially how Calvin Johnson was robbed against the Bears a few years back. It's not like this is a new rule, football players are paid a lot of money, Dez should have known exactly what to do in that situation, tuck that ball in safely and not try to stretch his arm out for the score.

There were also 4 minutes left on the clock at this point. Even if the call stands and DeMarco Murray runs the ball in on the 1st and goal, that still allowed plenty of time for anything to happen. Including the Pack marching down the field and scoring the game winner as the clock expired.

The Cowboys had a good year. They were fantastic on the road. They almost pulled it off at Lambeau field today. Best of luck to them next year, they simply weren't the best team today.

I don't get it. It's clear he did NOT maintain possession throughout THE ENTIRE PROCESS. It SHOULD have been overturned due how the CURRENT RULE has and is currently being ENFORCED.

Now, if you want to talk about changing the rule, and enforcement of the rule that is another topic all together. IMO that should be a catch, just not according to the current rules. Just like the tuck call was the correct call that they eventually changed because it was a silly rule. Are you saying that under the current rules it should have been ruled a catch?

Well said

I am a lifelong Cowboys fan and all I can say is that rules are rules, it sucks but the game is over and nothing we say or do can change that. We just have to play harder and smarter next season. Good luck to all the fans whose teams are still playing.
