He's done one on one interviews. I've yet to see him not look awkward in front of a crowd.

Have you never heard of social anxiety? It's a serious disorder affecting millions of Americans. Lynch isn't a jerk, he just has anxiety issues. I have issues talking in front of small groups. I can't imagine how hard it would be talking in front of millions of TV viewers.

I'm not buying the social anxiety angle though, as he has given proper interviews in the past.

And even if he has social anxiety, it doesn't excuse his dickishness in dealing with it.

I wonder what level of fine would make him flinch. Maybe it will come down to a suspension, because at this point he's making a mockery of the league.
That's not it at all. You can fine someone $2 million and suspend them and it won't work when it comes to someone with major anxiety issues. Back in college I would base my course schedule on which classes I wouldn't have to give presentations or speak in front of people. It's a serious mental health issue.

I've done it before, it's not that big of a deal. Kidding, of course!
I don't know why players have to address the media, in person, after every game. Why can't they just release a statement, or post via social media. The same end is being achieved, right? The information is getting out there.
Even before social media, I thought it was a dumb policy.
Now I have to wonder how many reporters are going after Lynch just for the sake of going after someone they know is not going to be comfortable talking...in the hopes that THAT becomes the story...again nonsense IMO.
When we go to war, I don't want to hear from the Captions, Majors and Colonels. I want to hear from the Generals, the Chiefs of Staff and the President. There is nothing that Marshawn Lynch can tell me that the Head Coach, GM or Owner can't do as well, and probably give a more detailed explanation.

They are not mutually exclusive. There is no doubt he has anxiety issues. There is no doubt he's a jerk. Why else would you turn towards the other team and grab your junk? Oh yeah, that's right. Anxiety

Same here. All we get is 99 percent canned replies anyway. Players rarely if ever say anything off script in those interviews. The Patriots are experts at saying absolutely nothing of meaning at every presser. The media just likes those interviews for the 1% of the time someone says something foolish.

Not to say he doesn't suffer from an Anxiety disorder, but Lynch also appeared on an episode of "The League" this year...

And I'm sure it was a much more friendly environment, scripted vs. unscripted(a totally different beast). Plus, IIRC, I think he only had one small scene with a few lines.

Walford is tearing it up in the Senior Bowl. I'd love to see him in a Bills uniform, but he is flying up the draft charts.

Wow, there is a difference between the two?

Of course there is, but I found it interesting he'd even do that... And I know how it was a small cameo because I saw the episode.

Why do people care that Marshawn doesn't like talking to the media? Does anyone ever actually care what the athletes have to say to the dumb questions reporters ask to begin with?

I couldn't care less if an athlete ditches the media... This is America. If the dude doesn't want to talk to reporters, that should be his right. People need to get over the fact that he doesn't like it when dozens of people surround him with cameras/microphones only to ask stupid questions anyways. I wouldn't like it either.

I think Marshawn is awesome... and I thought it was great that he basically trolled the reporters with his "yeah" and "thanks for asking" responses in two separate interviews.

If I were in his shoes, I'd keep on trolling 'em.

I couldn't see the video (not authorized for my location Canada). I'll have to fire up the VPN later.

But maybe the die hard fans could explain a something for me, an armchair fan who just watches a couple of games a year.

Don't both teams play with the same set of balls (insert snicker here). Or does each team bring their own set?

Thanks for any help.

Each team brings their own set of 12 and they are inspected an hour before each game.

It's not his "right" when it's a requirement of his job.

I'm just waiting for the reporters to start trolling him back. When he's only answering "yeah", start asking questions he can't answer with yeah.

"Are you worried about losing the next game?"
"Are you excited about leaving Seattle?"
"Would you prefer to be with Jacksonville?"

This deflate story is just killing my excitement for the Super Bowl to the point that I'm reconsidering going. I haven't bought tickets yet and have to be in Las Vegas on February 2 for a conference and I'm starting to consider saving myself about $3,000 and just going to Vegas early and watching the game there.
