I don't see very many people telling us that we're screwed, because that is simply not the case. Rex Ryan is in a good situation with us. For the life of me, I don't see how you can say 6 wins when we had 9 wins last year with a weaker coaching staff and roster. That doesn't make any sense at all. If we don't make the playoffs next season, it will be a huge disappointment. We're poised for great things, and a lot of wins are coming our way. Mark my words. Rex Ryan is a great fit for us, and he is going to lead us back to the promised land!

Yeah, in his first two seasons. Then he struggled to reach .500 for the rest of the time he was the Jets coach and never made the Playoffs again. He is 46-50 as a coach. I don't know if I would call him a proven winner.

Back to back conference title games is a pretty significant achievement regardless of when they happened. Most coaches never come close to that. Unfortunately for Rex, he had some pretty poor GM's during his stay in New York. He tried to make the best of it, but at the end of the day there just wasn't enough talent on the roster. Luckily for Mr. Ryan, we have a pretty darn promising young GM in Doug Whaley. He and Rex have really hit it off and see eye to eye on the direction of the team. They should work very well together.

I don't think that is going to be the case. I believe there will be a lot of success in Buffalo for Whaley and Ryan.

It's definitely more of the same for Rex in Buffalo IMO. But I would agree that the Bills, overall, have more talent than the Jets at the moment.
Atlanta doesn't need and didn't want the Rex Circus. We had that in the 90s with Jerry Glanville. He too was known for his defensive prowess and over-the-top antics. And he got him just as far as Rex, a few playoff appearances before falling off a cliff.

And just like Rex, he couldn't handle QBs. The team drafted Brett Favre, and Glanville sent him out of town.

The deadline to use the franchise tag is this afternoon at 4:00 ET. So far nobody has been tagged but it seems like certainties that Dez Bryant of the Cowboys, Justin Houston of the Chiefs, and Demaryius Thomas of the Broncos will all be tagged. Reports have indicated the Giants will tag Jason Pierre-Paul as well. After that there's some question marks. The Lions haven't said whether they'll tag Ndamakung Suh, but $26.7 million seems like way too much for a defensive lineman. With Darrelle Revis likely to be a free agent it would make sense for the Patriots to tag safety Devin McCourty. Less likely but possible tag candidates include Jerry Hughes with Buffalo, Randall Cobb with Green Bay, Kareem Jackson with Houston, or Stephen Gostkowski with New England (which would mean McCourty isn't tagged).

Edit: Justin Houston has been tagged by the Chiefs. Multiple reports say Suh will not be tagged. ESPN's Mike Reiss says it sounds like the Patriots are more likely to tag Gostkowski than McCourty.

Is it possible they lose Revis & Mccourty? That would suck for you guys, what's the Pats cap situation?

And no tag for Maclin?

Assuming the Patriots decline Revis' option the Patriots will be around $20 million under the cap. They will create more cap room by either releasing or renegotiating the contracts of Jerod Mayo, Vince Wilfork, and Danny Amendola, as none of those 3 will be back under their current contracts. They could also create more cap room by converting some of Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski's base salary into a signing bonus.

I'd be surprised if they lose McCourty. He loves it in New England and the Patriots should be able to get a deal done. I'm surprised by the reports that he won't get tagged because I thought for sure they'd tag him and sign him to a longer contract. At the very least I thought the Pats would use the transition tag. Revis is more of a question mark. He's got a ring now so he could choose to go for the biggest offer, and that's not likely to be with the Patriots.

Lions have officially announced they will not tag Suh, thank god

Quote:
The Lions announced they will not use the franchise tag on DT Ndamukong Suh.

Due to previous contract restructures, franchising Suh would have cost the Lions an unruly $26.7M. So now it's official: If there's no long-term deal with Detroit in place by March 10, Suh will hit the open market as the NFL's No. 1 free agent. He'll obviously command interest from cap-rich teams all over the league even though he wants to be the NFL's highest paid defender -- topping J.J. Watt's six-year, $100M extension that included $51.8M in guarantees. The Detroit Free Press speculates bidders will include the Lions, Jaguars, Jets, Colts and Raiders. Suh has been a top-4 tackle in PFF's grades in each of the last three seasons, anchored 2014's No. 2 overall defense and has missed just two games in his five-year career.

They won't lose both..and by signing revis long term they will free up some 13 mill + on their cap plus Wilfork won't be getting his 8 mill...and mayo ect. They will have plenty of $$

Why would they? The tag would cost them almost $13mil.
Maclin played on a cap friendly 1yr contract last season to prove his knee was healthy. I'm sure he wants to stay with Chip's offense and will, most likely, work out a deal.

I agree, now that Revis got that ring, I think hes gonna go for the biggest payday, which could be his last Major contract..

Teams will overpay, so losing at least one imo is a strong possibility...

Doesn't have be a franchise tag, maybe a transition tag so at least they wont lose him for nothing... He wont last long on the open market, a lot of teams need WR

The thing that could hurt the value of receivers is that the free agent class is loaded and this is also a very deep draft for receivers. In addition to Cobb and Maclin there's decent options in Torrey Smith, Michael Crabtree, Harry Douglas, Cecil Shorts, Brian Hartline, and Eddie Royal, plus solid receiving threat tight ends like Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, and Charles Clay. There's also more receivers that could be asked to take a pay cut and if they refuse will possibly hit the market like Percy Harvin, Mike Wallace, Vincent Jackson, Andre Johnson, and Brandon Marshall.

Damn I didn't realize there were going to be that many options at WR this year
