He probably wouldn't have made the team anyways... And if he's good enough to play in the NFL, he'll make it on a team somewhere else eventually. This wasn't bad enough to be banished for good.

Quote:
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be sidelined for 18 to 30 interceptions with two fractures in his jaw, the result of a locker-room altercation Tuesday morning with reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali.

“It’s tough for Geno,” said head coach Todd Bowles. “He was primed to really put up big numbers this year. But we have to move forward as a team. No matter who is behind center, I’m sure we’ll still play Jets football.”

Smith had posted big turnover numbers during his first two seasons with the Jets, but in the 2015 season he was expected to threaten the impressive interception numbers put up in a Jet uniform by Joe Namath, Brett Favre and Vinny Testaverde.

"Being mentioned in the same sentence as all-time turnover kings like those guys, well … it would mean I'd be remembered forever,” Smith said at the start of training camp. But now, team doctors say Smith will miss as many as 30 turnovers while his jaw heals.

"Could Geno come back midseason and still put up 30 turnovers?” said Bowles. “Yes. I think he has that kind of ceiling. But it will be tough even for him.”

Off-season acquisition Ryan Fitzpatrick said he us ready to go in Smith's absence.

"I think I've shown during my career that I can turn the ball over as good as anyone else,” said Fitzpatrick. “I seriously doubt I'll play well enough to keep the starting job, so they'll be forced to go back to Geno Smith, which is both sad and hilarious. I'm just happy to contribute to the Jets quarterbacking history.”

Usually the Jets season is over by the quarter mark. Getting a head start this year.

I wonder if they would consider bringing Vick back? He has to be a better option than Grossman or Thigpen.

They already said it would be "ruff" bringing him back.

I think that pretty much sums up Rex Ryan's opinion of Geno Smith. He probably thought IK was a hero for punching him.

Imagine if this had happened to just about any other team with another QB (other than Bills, Texans, etc)... would've been massive news and would remain a story for a long time. We'll all forget about this by next week.

NFL might suspend Enemkpali, I'm not sure what the CBA says about things like this. It's also not a guarantee he makes our roster. But he's certainly worth taking a flyer on.

The Colts signed T.Y. Hilton to a 5-year, $65 million contract with $39 million guaranteed (the amount fully-guaranteed is currently unknown). Hilton's agent Drew Rosenhaus is now going to Pittsburgh to try to rework Antonio Brown's deal, but the Steelers might be hesitant with Brown only 2 years into a 5-year deal.

Colts and WR TY Hilton made progress last night, per source, but have not agreed on deal "yet." Negotiations resume this morning, per source

Ah, sorry. Surprised he would take that amount but maybe he thinks less of himself than I do. He's definitely not a 1A though, more of a 1B.

The thing is Hilton was a 3rd round pick so he's only made about $2 million in salary during his career and was only set to make $665,000 this season. He's only 5'9" and plays a position with a lot of injury risk and this deal sets him up for life. Maybe if he had played out the season and had another great year he could have gotten more, but the more likely scenario is he would have ended up being franchised and trying to work out a deal before the deadline like Dez and DT. Now he can just focus on football and not worry about his contract situation.

I'm surprised the Colts gave him that kind of money after just drafting Dorsett. They are very similar style receivers.
