Better to be smart and invest resources elsewhere when looking for an answer at QB than writing dumb checks and trading your lifeline for a 1-AA QB who had so-so stats in college and is not even close to being can't-miss....

BTW Mac is a boss if he resigns Fitz somewhere near what Chase Daniel got. Dude is straight calling Fitzy's bluff. If anything, I'm excited to see how that plays out. Do we go Lynch (God I hope not and don't think Mac is that dumb)? Who knows. I suspect something will change from now until the season starts.

Interesting article. Just shows why teams gamble/spend on a QB. Without one, might as well look to the next draft. Sure you've got teams like the 2000 Ravens, but that is more the exception to the rule.

Can be done, but you need to have a transcendent defense to do it.

Interesting looking at recent QBs taken in the first round and seeing how many busts there's been:
2010:
Tim Tebow-bust
Sam Bradford-Injury-prone and wasn't great when he was healthy, probably could be considered a bust for the Rams
2011:
Cam Newton-Star
Jake Locker-bust
Blaine Gabbert-bust
Christian Ponder-bust
2012:
Andrew Luck-Star
RGIII-great as a rookie, bust overall
Ryan Tannehill-has shown potential, but hasn't been great
Brandon Weeden-bust
2013:
EJ Manuel-bust

It's still too soon to judge the QBs from 2014 and 2015, although Bortles, Bridgewater, Winston, and Mariota have produced good results in their brief careers and Manziel is already a bust. Still, that means in a 4-year span the first round produced 2 stars, 7 busts, and however you want to classify Ryan Tannehill.

Exactly why the trades the Rams and the Eagles have made for two QBs with so many question marks are so stupid. Even at the top of the draft it's hard to know if you'll get a good QB or not.

Here's what we do know: if you don't have an elite QB, your odds of winning decrease dramtically.
Draft is a total crapshoot. You have to roll the dice sometime.
Recent history has shown that if you don't land 1st round QB talent, odds are you won't get that talent anywhere else.

If he does, I'm thinking he won't be signing with Washington. With just under $12mil in cap space should be interesting to see how they would work a deal out. Epsecially with Reed due a sizable increase, and MeSean is going to do his annual pout tour for more money, I would expect.

The drop-off from Goff and Wentz to Cook and Lynch is not that sizable, which is why I will be fine with it if we draft either of the latter two over a defensive player in the second round. Especially since we only went 1-8 last year without Romo and his back and shoulder are both ticking time bombs, not to mention he's about 5 minutes younger than I am.

Six days to go, will be checking my phone a lot during training since I can't wait to see who we take. Ramsey? Bosa? An unnamed DT? It's Jerry, while he has been better with McClay guiding him, he's still quite unpredictable.
