I am sick & tired of athletes signing contracts for that money, then trying to hold owners hostage to renegotiate. Fulfill your contract, then talk or go somewhere else. Micah Parsons 11 etc...it's bullshit.

NFL now owns part of ESPN

Prior to its earnings update, Disney confirmed previous reports that ESPN has reached a preliminary deal to acquire key NFL Media assets, including NFL Network, NFL RedZone, and NFL Fantasy, in exchange for a 10% equity stake in the network.

Alongside the sale of NFL Network, the league and ESPN have also agreed to a second deal under which the league will license certain NFL content and intellectual property to ESPN for use across NFL Network and related assets. The announcement comes as ESPN confirmed an August 21 launch date for its new standalone service, which is set to cost $29.99 per month.

Looks like ESPN Fantasy and NFL Fantasy will be merging to create an official NFL Fantasy site

I have no doubt they want to create their own inhouse Draftkings type service which ESPN has already tried and failed miserable at. I have been saying it for years now that the NFL will eventually be top to bottom pay walled and this is the start to that path imo.

And I just read this:

NFL Network — which has nearly 50 million subscribers — would be owned and operated by ESPN and would be included in ESPN's direct-to-consumer product.

I just signed up for NFL+ Premium since it's discounted 20% off right now, in lieu of the ridiculous Sunday Ticket pricing. Now I can't help but feel ESPN is going to follow in Google's footsteps and ruin that, too. Not that ESPN needs to follow anyone in order to ruin something.

Yes sir. I mentioned that in the original post that I linked to. But I also went with the premium package so I get full access to replay once the games are finished. For $80, that's good enough for me.

Jon Gruden has beaten the NFL in the Nevada Supreme Court. No arbitration. His case against the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell will be litigated in court. (The league will surely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.)

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Bengals “are listening to trade offers” for Trey Hendrickson.

Rapoport writes that “with contract talks at an impasse,” the Bengals are finally open to dealing the 2024 sack leader. A willingness to deal Hendrickson would have been better for everybody if the Bengals had considered this months ago, but now the four-time Pro Bowler will hope to find a new home and contract with just three weeks to go before the start of the season. Hendrickson has been holding in at Bengals camp since reporting on July 30th, and would likely need some time to ramp up for the start of the season. In theory, he should have several suitors on the market, but a trade could prove difficult given the pick compensation the acquiring team would have to give up, along with the money that would come from giving Hendrickson a new contract.

this report comes after nfl network’s ian rapoport reported that the bengals are now listening to trade offers. It’s minor semantics, but worth pointing out that a prolonged discussion to move the star pass rusher could suggest that the bengals are willing to deal hendrickson for the right price. According to russini, the bengals are specifically eyeing defensive players in addition to draft capital for hendrickson. Regardless of asking price, the most difficult part of getting a deal done will come down to what the acquiring team is willing to offer the bengals and also hendrickson in a contract extension. A trade won’t be impossible to pull off, but it will come at a very steep price.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Panthers, Browns, and Colts are among the teams interested in trading for Trey Hendrickson.

An in-division trade with the Browns feels like the most unlikely outcome, but we’ll assume any deal can be had with the right price. According to Schultz, the Bengals are “believed to want an impact player (or two) plus a draft pick” in exchange for Hendrickson’s services. It will be an obviously steep price to pay for any team that hopes to acquire the star pass-rusher, and any team willing to make the trade will also have to have room to sign Hendrickson to a new deal. Schultz also notes that the Bengals and Hendrickson prefer to stay together, but that contract negotiations “keep hitting a wall.” We’ll see where things go from here, but for now, we have three teams to watch as trade negotiations spark up.

I'm sorry but Hendrickson goin' on his 30's (31 in December) is not worth 3 1st rounders plus the 5 year contract your team (or any team) will have to ink. This deal can and should be done for less.
